Since I will most likely be flying into Manchester I will need a way to get to London and back. Has anyone gone this route before? What is the best way to do this? Bus?

Bus would by far be the cheapest route. It'll take a bit longer but not *too* much when you factor in the time you spend getting to/from the airports and waiting for your flight.

Try National Express. They frequently have 1 pound super-saver internet fares.

Lizz, you can get the train from Manchester to London (it takes about 2 hours, 20 minutes), and it can work out cheaper if you buy two single tickets, rather than one return. Singles start at £12.50. You can look up on www.thetrainline.co.uk.

If you were to get the National express, it takes about 4 hours, 30 (minutes (direct), and fares vary greatly. You can get the special fares, so it can work out as cheap as maybe £10-£15 return, but there are certain restrictions I believe, so it's definitely worth checking out the website!

It all depends on whether you want to spend 4-5 hours on a bus!

dont take the bus...just dont trsut me...i took the bus from london up to inverness...and i know its alot further but that single journey cost me £45 and i had to change bus at 3 diff stops (birmingham, carlisle and glasgow)...the journey took double hour figures and it was uncomforting...the boredom and nothing to do...OMG so boring, take the train just for the pure quickness...welll ok it is quicker by a few hours but come on...and yea as lauren was saying bout 2 single fairs...that is cheaper,i was going to edinburgh with a friend and then i was goin to london and she was goin back to inverenss and it worked out to be cheaper if i bought TWO return tickets and one single ticket to london from edinburgh...i've just gone against what i just said...but i was lookin at traint ticket prices fer goin to london from inverness fer the meet-up on 20th that it was cheaper fer two single fairs (one to and one fro) then gettin a return...

...its all a bit messed up but ya gotta look at all angles such as times and diff packages and diff companies...but i would recommend train, two single fairs, sorry for rambling on...again

Do the train between Manchester and London... believe me.

I did it last month after visiting Bri in Liverpuddle and it was SO much better than flying, simply because you don't have to waste a bunch of time getting to/from airports... The flight's nearly an hour, plus airport transfers, whereas the train's a couple of hours... and much more enjoyable. Them Virgin trains that run the route are kinda cushy!
