Since I'm going to be in Dublin for so long, I definitely want to take a couple of day trips. The ones I'm thinking of right now are Derry and Galway, if it's possible.

It looks like the bus from Dublin to Galway is just under 4 hours, so I figure I could either go in the morning and come back late (if it runs) or go, couchsurf at MeTurks and head back in the morning. Is that doable? I know I don't get a lot of time in the city but I'll be leaving a friend in Dublin and don't want to be gone too long.

As for Derry, it looks like the bus is just over 4 hours, so maybe I could do the same thing. (Though I wouldn't have the friend to get back to this time.)

Any Irish Punks or anyone been to Dublin and tried trips like this? I was just gleaning some info from the Bus Eireann site.

I haven`t been to Derry but have been to Galway. It would be doable to go there and back in a day from Dublin but I would say at least stay one night; won`t your friend understand? One night isn`t away too long. Believe me, you will get to Galway and want to stay overnight; it is really a nice place. And there and back in a day would make for a VERY VERY long day...
