A Cat Manicure

Well Luna has been scratching the heck outta my furniture, my screens and me, so I was about to get her declawed. But not only is it super expensive, but I also did some reading up on it and I decided that I didn't want to put her through that pain and suffering. Ya I know, I am a paranoid mother. So I did some research and I found this site...I'm NOT SPAMMING this...its just a product that I am excited to have found and I think other cat owners might find it interesting. Especially as an alternative to declawing. www.softpaws.com

It took about five minutes to apply these vinyl tips to Luna's nails and to my great surprise, she sat still while I did it! Here is a pic...Man I am in love with this cat. The tips are orange like her!

benna, i don't know how to ask this, but are you a crazy cat person of some sort?

My vet has the same option for cats that are scratchers. Luckily my kitten isn't one of them. It might be easier for some people to just get it done there, just a thought.

LOL! Rory, NO I swear I am not a crazy cat person. I actually really only like my cat. I got Luna because this is the first time I have ever lived alone and it got real lonely in my apartment. Cats are much safer options to live with than boyfriends!

And she isnt as spoiled as it seems...this is just so I can have a piece of mind. She does look damn sassy though eh?

Don't you have to take them off periodically to cut their claws? They do look like a good option, I will be curious to see how long they last before you need new ones and how long also in between claw trimmings. Cutting a cat's claws is also often a major chore if they do not like you to do it. I used to wind up scarred from each session.

I finally had my cat declawed after about 6 months of having him. While I felt bad about doing it, I rescued him from humane society and he was a violent scratcher - soon after I got him, he started ripping out pawfuls of carpet, couch, whatever he could get his claws into. I think its a fair price to pay, him giving up his claws and getting a great place to live and lots of attention.

The surgery wasn't very expensive and he was just about back to normal within a few days.

Do they do like a fake scratch after that for a bit? I mean, they have no claws but out of habbit do they still go and try to rip apart the furniture etc?

I'm so lucky my cat doesn't scrath anything but his posts. :D

My cat, even years later, still fake scratches the couch. Its pretty loud too, he sounds like he is doing damage, but really isn't.
