I know you're all waiting breathlessly...

Space Needle #1

Space Needle #2

Space Needle #3

Space Needle #4

Space Needle breathes a sigh of relief

Me and my bartender

Me on the observation deck-- obviously before the mayhem started.

At least it gets off once a year... more than we can say about some other buildings (or people.)

Besides, in this case I'd say that quality may make up for at least some of the quantity...

That's a sweet pic. How did you make those tracers?

sd / kcl: aw, thanks! They're a weird combination of gold and green.

pinion: j/k

voyd: I was actually trying to get a decent picture of the harbor as well, so I had it on the "night" scene mode with a longer shutter lag... but I was holding the camera which caused some movement, and that's how it turned out! It was also really windy but I doubt that had anything to do with the effect, lol. It's kinda cool though, huh? There's another one here.

^ Yes, very cool!

What's weird is how the tracers somehow are in front of your face and also your face is not blurred. ...I'm still trying to figure that out, but lookin' good!

And how the HELL could I forget this??? Here are some pics of the ice carving we had, it was a luge: pour alcohol in the top and it comes out the bottom...

luge 1

luge 2

The damn thing was so tall that we had to put it on a separate table with a chair so I could stand on it and pour the drinks in! (It wouldn't fit on the bar, haha.)

Voyd - you can usually get that kind of effect by putting the camera into Slow Synch mode... Basically, it's night mode with a soft flash. What that does is open up the shutter longer, but it throws a flash for a brief moment to mainly get the object that's in focus. Everything else tends to be a blur.

Not the perfect examples, but here are a couple I've done intentionally:

hahaha! Except I was pouring mostly vodka / red bull into it. And at one point some ladies decided that they wanted to shotgun some champagne out of it. I said "are you SURE?!" and they insisted, so.... ew. Plus it was Cook's nasty ass shit.

omisan - Wow. I bow down to your technical expertise. You are da man!

What do you suggest for a new P&S dig cam, btw? The Canon SD300's are really nice - but I was also considering getting one of their "weatherproof" ones with a sliding front to keep pocket lint out.

I'm no camera expert, but while I've heard good things about the SD 300, if I remember correctly I've heard that the S400 (yours) actually takes better pictures. It's the same number of megapixels, so you wouldn't be upgrading with that... plus it takes SD memory instead of compact flash so you wouldn't be able to use your existing memory cards. Omi will probably recommend a Sony, lol.

^ Ya, I just read the review. My s400 takes better pics, but the SD300 is like half the size with a bigger screen and movie resolution. Basically, everything is smaller and better, except they had to sacrifice a bit of pic quality to achieve that. So, it'd be a trade-off, hmmm...

I personally went with the A series *because* of the picture quality. I have the 4mp version of that and the photos are amazing (plus it was cheaper, haha.) I do love the itty bitty cameras but I've found that the size of mine hasn't been a hindrance at all. That's just me though.

^ forgot to add: I would have gone with the A95, which is the 5 mp version, because of the swivel screen... I love the swivel screen. Pinion has one of those and I really dig it! Alas, I couldn't afford it at the time...

^ Ya, it's insane for me to be worrying about size when mine is already the size of a thick stack of credit cards. But, damn, my bro-in-law just got the SD300 and it fits so much better in your pocket!

I'm good with both Canons and Sonys.. I just keep buying Sony because I have so many damn memory sticks laying around.. Although that might change soon. I was using my trusty DSC-W1 today for a print ad photo shoot (yes, a P&S can be that decent), and my damn tripod collapsed and the thing hit the ground... Now the lens doesn't pop in/out half the time and it's all angry at me. So much for the theory on all-metal bodies... I should really have my work buy me a Canon digital Rebel or a Nikon SLR for this kinda stuff.

The criteria I look for are these: Compact enough to fit in jeans pockets, good optics (i.e. glass lenses.. some of those POSes out htere are plastic!), quick shutter response, good color reproduction, more than 4 megapixels (you may not need it, but it's more forgiving when you shrink crappy pix down), sturdy construction. I thought I had that last one w/ my W1, but I guess not!
