With the weather being so beautiful I've been snapping photos left and right. Seattle is such a photogenic city, it's hard to get a bad shot even in the rain.

And you gotta love Mount Rainier at sunset! It's hard to put in perspective exactly how freaking ENORMOUS Mount Rainier really is unless you see it. Keep in mind that it's about 75-100 miles away from where this picture was taken. The water is Lake Washington with one of the floating bridges visible (Bill Gates' compound is visible on the water.) This pic was taken about 10 blocks or so from my house.

You can get a little bit of perspective of the size of the mountain if you look at the other water/sunset pictures, which show the Cascade Mountains, and those are bigger than anything on the eastern side of the Mississippi River. Mount Rainier literally dwarfs anything else around it. It's incredible and tends to cause a lot of traffic accidents on some days from people gawking at the view!! Also, there are pics of the view from my new office. Not a bad view but the office itself is really tiny. And just outside the office door is a view of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Is this a great place to live or what?

you know, we make jokes up here about the major influx of californians in the past decade.

Well, he was forced to move up there because the mothership (Microshaft) was calling... It was either that or get laid off! But judging by your photos, I guess it wasn't so bad a deal.

funny you should mention the influx of californians... the old man and i have discussed at great length the possibility of a move into washington. he'd like to make grad school there perhaps. even my good friend and her husband just told us they may move there. go figure.

god, joan-- imagine the havoc we would wreak if you moved up here.

it almost doesn't bear considering. B)

i'm totally into the idea of a move up there... the mountains in cali aren't quite big enough. plus, there's tons of pro-fleece being worn in washington state! i'd die! the proximity to canada, everything. plus, i love the rain and green scenes. plus, i love you. we would make trouble for all the boys in a million mile radius!

christ, call me ms. lusty pants.

speaking of fleece - damn, the cutest guy just passed my office door, he was delivering lunch to the ladies down the hall. he stopped and asked if i was holly, i said no and directed him down the hall... but - of course - i detected his accent... hurmm.. new zealand maybe. i wait, he passes again, i shout 'are you from new zealand?' he comes back, 'no - i'm from england' by this time i've gottena really good look at him, cut outfit dude, just my style, a chill pair of shorts and a fleece, damn you're cute.

get down here space, i can't make adequate use of him, haha - someone should!
yay you cute british guy that delivers for the cheese shop! you're super.

And doesn't nearby Vancouver have liberal soft-drug laws now?

All the more reason to move Joanie...

Not that I'm tryin' to kick ya out of SD or anything like that...

thanks tony! Our new office is about 2 blocks from the dick's on lower queen anne. Fortunately I don't keep much cash on me so I don't get there for lunch very often, which is probably a good thing because I really love their cheeseburgers.

like I said before, until you actually see Mt Rainier in person, it's hard to get an idea of exactly how BIG it is. Sometimes when I catch sight of it I stop dead in my tracks and mutter "wow!"

I've been in Seattle for most of my life, my great-grandparents built a house on an island near here in the 30's, so this is really home to me. I lived in Montana for a while when I was little because of my dad's job. Trippy place. Montana really is a "state of mind."

you're planning to move up here? Wow, seems like there are a bunch of tpunks planning to move up this way!!

yes, definitely! We'd love to see them!

I have some Vancouver pics laying around from a 4-day trip I took before christmas, but that was before I got my digital camera and I'm totally lazy about developing film. I wonder what else is on there.

whoops, sorry about that... it should work now! Or you can go to http://www.photobucket.com and type in "jeanieL" in the "go to album" box, then scroll down to Seattle.
