Another passport question...
After following link after link and reading so many damn websites that give conficting info, thought i'd just come and ask the experts!

Anybody know what the rules/regulations/eligability conditions are for an Australian citizen, wanting to obtain UK citizenship and thus a UK passport. ie, if you have a parent or grandparent born in the uk.

I've worked out that i'm eligible for an ancestry visa for 4 years, but im just not satisfied with that!

Which country? Only Ireland (in the UK, that is) allows you to apply for a passport if you have a grandparent that is/was an Irish citizen. If it's England it has to be a parent.

Ireland's tightened up the ancestry visa as well...

Anyway, the best thing to do is to get a work visa - it's a lot easier for you since you're in the Commonwealth already. Once you get the work visa and find a decent job in the UK, stick around a few years and apply for citizenship. If you have family there, it makes getting the visa easier in the first place - although I don't know how close the relations have to be...

You can get the official info from the UK Home Office:

Whoops, my bad. :) I think both of them do, actually.

I recommend this website. I got a British passport because my dad was born there.

I believe you can't get a British passport if only your grandparents were born there (must be a parent), but I'm not 100% sure.
