In October, I'm heading out to Edinburgh for a couple of days, and then doing a MacBackpacker tour of the Highlands for a week. We'll be staying in hostels along the way. I've got the typical question of how much do you think it will cost? The stressful thing is the exchange rate between Canadian funds and the GBP. I'm basically doubling the cost of everything!! The tour itself is already paid for, so I'm more curious about the cost of food in scotland, and of course, drinks!! Also, if anyone has been there before, any suggestions, comments would be appreciated. How cold does it really get up there?

Thanks for the input!

Ive done that tour before, I did the one where you can jump off the tour and stay as long as you want at each destination. Food and drinks are pretty expensive, and the hostels charge 10pounds a night. If your on the jump on jump off tour I would reccomend staying at the isle of sky for a few days so you can explore.

Hey Natasha,

I went in the summer and although I didn't stay in hostels like the deal you are doin, I did tour around Scotland a bit. A decent supper was around 7 pounds, although we usually spent more like 11 in the pubs. We splurged on drinks and the like. Pints cost us around 3 pounds. I stayed at a hostel in glasow (Euro Youth) is was okay but noisy! Elsewhere I stayed in Sheilings, (Kinda like glorified tents) which were very cool and more price-wise.

Dunno about the guides, we just did it on our own. But Scotland is BEAUTIFUL and I must go back. Scottish people rock.

Thanks for the feedback Jenn. I'm leaving this evening, and am absolutely delirous with excitement! I can't wait. The prices you're quoting are not too bad. I thought it might be more expensive than that. I guess there's hope that I'll be living on more than peanut butter after all!!

No problem! Have a great 'n safe trip!!! I honestly did not find it as bad as what I thought it would be, but take the T-Punk advice of over-budgeting!!

Have fun!!!
