jteichgrab asks,

i am leaving for Peru in about 2 days and i am not sure if i should take travellers checks. i was planning on doing so, but i recently heard that they are fast becoming useless. people have been telling me that you can find ATM's everywhere these days. thats not hard to believ in Europe but south america i assumed that in the small villages an ATM would be a rare site. i'm not too sure what to do. i was only planning on taking about $500 worth but not sure if thats a good idea anymore. i need advice quickly. thanks

To be honest, I think you might have a problem with travlers cheques and ATM in the small towns in Peru???

In the bigger cities it should not be that big a prob

If you will be in and out of major city centers, then travelers cheques I think would be the better way to go, just change what you will need at local banks before you head out to the villages and smaller towns. Banks and money exchanges will be rare I think. I will guess that alot of shops will not take your travels cheques either.

What you shuld do is contact your bank or the company that your got the travelers cheques from and find out the pro's and con's of taking travelers cheques to a country like Peru.
