With the dollar getting its ass kicked by the Euro and inflation and all those other fun economic topics we Americans love, I have some questions about my backpacking Europe budget.
I am planning on a two month trip to Western Europe with this loose itinerary:

Fly into London (2 days) (Mid May)
Paris (4-5 days)
Barcelona (2-3)
Nice (1)
Monte Carlo (1-2)
Italy (at least two weeks for multiple cities)
Greece (gonna make a judgement call when the time comes to see how much time i have left)
Switz (2-3)
Amsterdam (2-3)
Ireland, Scotland, and back to London with remaining time (Mid July)

Like I said this is a rough sketch, I know it will change, but that is the general direction I am headed. So finally, my questions......

1) Is this a decent first timers itinerary to see the good stuff and a basic overall experience of Europe?

2) Is 4000 US enough money to cover hostels, museums, food, attractions, maybe some sky diving or skiing adventures, and other things like that.

I have already purchased my airline ticket and rail pass, so the 4000 US is for my actual travel expenses excluding those
Any answers or anything else you would all reccoment is greatly appreciated!!

curious, our plans are somewhat alike....which rail pass did you opt for, I am up in the air over the main pass or the flexi pass. Flexi pass makes sense 'cuz i will not be traveling everyday, but will 15 days over 2 months be enough?

I am still between the 15 and 21 day flexipass, but with ryanair and easyjet I am thinking of the 15 day and flying from base city to base city when available. How are you handling the other questions I have asked?

hi there!

your preliminary itinerary looks good! curious, what places do you plan to visit in switzerland? i hear zurick, zirmmat and lucerne are nice!

although it's expensive all over, nice and monaco, are especially expensive, so perhaps you might want to limit monaco to a day trip?

4K is definitely enough for 2 months, but really, it depends on your personal discretion. are you a thrift traveller? or, are you a champagne traveller? if you get the gist of what I'm saying, that is, 4K can take you a long way, or, you can blow it pretty quickly.

plus, if you are interested in doing expensive sports like skydiving or so, as you mentioned, then you have to be especially more budget conscious on your other types of expenses, such as transportation, lodging, food and shopping...

good luck!

hoohayman:
As of right now i have a fairley open itinerary, I fly into london and after a few days there plan on heading over into Brussels and then A-dam, after that Copenhagen? Berlin? Stockholm? I know at some point i'll need to book on down to both Prague and Budapest.....I think i am going to wing it as far as scheduling goes........As for a rail pass I had always intended on getting the 2 month 17 country unlimited pass, but after typing in my desired destinations on railpass.com, they suggest I get the 15 day flexi pass along with a special Eastern Euro pass. I mean why get the unlimited pass if I am going to be spending 2-3 days in a city at a time (if not longer in some?) it would save me like 400. I would like to limit my budget to 3000 for 2 months if possible. Good luck man!
