So here I am, about to leave for my first trip overseas, and I am too shamed to front up to the bank with big question marks all over my face.

What the hell do I do about travellers cheques?

How much $$? How many do I need to drag around everywhere I go? How often should I cash em?

Is there an easier (cheapest) way to keep and access money? I'm going to an asian country.

Well it depends on what part of Asia, I usually carry a couple hundy (maybe 200) in travelers checks just as back up but use my atm/check and debit cards for the most part. You may have a few fees here and there but you would be charged to convert it anyway.

I have only been to Korea and Singapore so Im not real familiar with the exceptance of the cards in other parts of Asia.

What do ya say CD or WWW??

You'll get some good answers

(by the way I meant I use the cards through cash machines)

Honestly, your cheques should only be used for emergencies. You should use the ATMs for 99% of your cash in foreign countries. If you're heading pretty far off the beaten path, then perhaps you'll need more cheques, but I'd keep it to a minimum, otherwise.

ATMs are just about universal. One thing, though, don't do a bunch of tiny withdrawals, you'll mostlikely get charged by your bank more that way.

Good luck, bon voyage, in bocca al lupo, Ana!
