Default Where do you think is the best home base for travel?

Assuming you want to travel all areas of the globe. Is this a stupid question?

I've been moping lately at how expensive it is to fly to asia, and wondered what airport would be in the center of everything. If I were to guess i'd say an airport like Frankfurt could be ideal. Cheap flights to NA from there, and the flights to the pacific rim have to be cheaper than from NA.

I reckon the UK is one of the best places. We have budget flights to absolutely everywhere in Europe, to Israel, Pakistan and Hong Kong (from there you can get budget flights all over Asia/Oceania), and even non-budget flights are priced well compared to some other routes of similar length.

The UK is ok... however always avoid a flight out of heathrow - they are expensive, the airport majorly crap and takes forever to get through security!

France and Germany also good countries to be based in.

Just living in the UK destroys taking advantage of cheaper flights, because you are paying a fortune for everything else.

I still stand by Frankfurt.

UK is a great hub for cheap flights to Europe but on the other hand being in the UK is damned expensive. I would say maybe Ireland as I imagine its cheaper or Germany except there is a language barrier.

I don't know if you're interested in living in the U.S., but if so, the San Fran area, being on the Pacific, is good for travel to Asia and of course throughout the U.S. Plus it has three fairly large airports so you'd have some options there as well.
