How much money to change??
Hey, here's question: what kind of money do they accept in Turkey? Should I take out EUROS and the Turkish Lira???
How much Syrian Pounds and Turkish money should I take out BEFOREHAND? I'll be in Syria for about 6 days, and Turkey for about 11 days... |
they like the good ole british pound in turkey, but IMO you'd be best just using an atm
|
Yea, ATM is your best bet, otherwise they accept all the main currencies for exchange, euros, dollars, sterling etc.

To play it safe, why dont you take a little of both (enough of each to last a day or 2) and by then I'm sure you should be able to find at least one ATM....
|
Nowadays ATMs are pretty much everywhere, even in somewhere like Turkey. Reading that they don't exist is usually based on very old information, in fact I read that there were no ATMs at all in Albania but when I arrived there were plenty.
Definitely keep some backup money in cash in case you do get stuck, I usually go for a couple of hundred dollars, but then stick to ATMs. |
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I suppose the info is old...the Lonley Planet's Syria and Lebanon guidebook says that there's like only 2 ATMs in Damascus... this was back in 1998.... I suppose things have changed since then

the visa and mastercard websites have atm locators, have you tried them?
