Inspired by Beth's thread, I have an idea.

Anyone interested in doing this, please join in.

Grab a shoebox and duct tape the hell out of it. On the top of the box cut a slit in it, enough to shove in folded dollar bills and multiple coins, but not wide enough to pull money out

.

Start today and stick one dollar into it, or any change you find.

Every day that you stick a dollar or more (hopefully more- a few dollars, five's tens, twenty's etc...), reply to this thread with as little as smilie of your choice.

For example, if I stuck a dollar or more inside my shoebox each day for the next 2 weeks straight, I would have replied to this thread 14 times. Which means that I would have $14 or much more inside my box.

This thread should build fast and will be very inspirational the more and more it grows.

You can also use a medium to large jar (not small...THINK BIG!), piggy bank, or whatever. But make sure that you duct tape it so you can't open it, or even see it's contents.

Those of you who already have one, join in by using the same one but start replying to this thread everytime you stick a dollar or more into it!

C'mon gang! The more people that do it, the better! I promise that this will payoff for you

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU BREAK INTO YOUR BANK.

...And why stop with one box? Create one for personal savings too (and when it grows huge, you can put it into a real investment.)

I am in on this for sure Tony! I am a great little saver (if I do say so myself!

However....I will admit that before I read this post, I "borrowed" $5 in loonies from my coin tin for a Tim Hortons run.

So I guess the duct tape idea is a very good one! Hmmm, I guess I need to figure out a way to put a slit through tin...so I can duct tape it shut. Any ideas?

Another thing to add is for anyone doing this to get some coin rollers and actually take your rolled up coins to the bank so it becomes "real money" and stick it in a savings account that you do NOT TOUCH!

So I guess I owe my tin five bucks. Which I will put back in tomorrow.

Puncture the tin with a screw driver. Then use the screw driver to lengthen the slit. Duct tape your tin (real good) so you won't be tempted

!

Rolled coins are great too, just don't go save pennies!.

Im not earning money right now, so the best I can do is try not to get into any more debt than I have to. But on a better note, I found 20 British pounts today in the inside pocket of my vest that I havent worn since May when I was in England. Quite the pleasant surprise. I guess I will hang onto it for whenever I am next in the UK

i should have been able to take a sweet ass trip by now if i had thought to save all the money i was spending on cigarettes before i quit 15 months ago. $1,800! i guess anthon and i have spent it on other things though. i.e. a sweet ass summer traveling the country and not having to work. yeah, i'm down with this. anthon and i have this huge jar that we can save $$ in. i guess we'll be putting at least $2 in a day. hey, if i saved all my tips from SBUXs, we'd have $50 bucks a week saved. $2600. nice.

I am leaving in two days so I can't really have a shoebox with me. That said, I need to make my money last a LONG time so I will try to refrain from spending it all on alcohol, etc. in Oz, esp. since Tokyo is so expensive.....

Alright, I don't literally have my shoebox ready yet, but I have $20 bucks for it. We're saving for an apartment (we've waited until about a week ago to start saving... what idiots we are). Jake had to have his suit jacket tailored and we thought it would cost $100, but it was only $80, so there's money we didn't spend. Tonight, I'm doing a focus group. $75 cash money.

Just put back the five dollars from last night PLUS another dollar and some change.

I had one of the girls from work hammer a slit into the lid (with a butterknife) because I'm too much of a wimp wiht a hammer to do it myself. I wanted to keep my fingers.

There is no duct tape in my house so I will have to look for some and get the lid taped up so I can no longer borrow money from my little savings fund.

Basically they have a product they want to market. So you hire people to come and give their opinions on it. it can be food, toys, clothing, whatever.

Yeah pretty much what Sudz said. You sit around talking about certain things. I applied for one for banking and this one is about cell phone usage. It's about two hours and they pay you at the end.

What about I bonds? I've been toying with buying some as a relatively high-ROR safe investment.

They currently offer a "semi-variable" 6.73% ROR with a 1 year minimum term of ownership and if you cash out in under 5 years, you only forfeit the last 3 months' interest.

Not bad for a bond. Or any good CDs, anyone?

I did a focus group 2 weeks ago on mortgage related incentives for brokerages. $250 for 1 1/2 hrs.

Another company has called me twice on 2 different focus groups regarding Infiniti G35's. I couldn't make either....$500 down the drain

You really just sit there and answer questions. "When you see this picture, what do you think of?" "What is a better incentive as a homebuyer? Rebate, Home Depot gift certificate, Larg gift basket?" When you hear the word "rewards," what comes to mind? You get the picture.

Search for Focus Groups in Seattle and get on their list. They call you from time to time to test out products. Cash in an envelope on the spot. Done.
