That used to be me! Is a 1300$ dollar house payment worth the tax return?

My father usually does mine. But I think he is making me do my own this year. I could really use a refund .

I usually do my own, but I'm thinking of finding someone to help. I paid for my master's with tuition remission, and it's not really "free." After a certain amount, they pretend that you earned what you paid for tuition, so they tax you on it. My W-2s say I earned maybe 10k more than I actually did, not to mention 20k more than I actually put in my little pockets. But my tuition form says that I paid $90 in tuition. So I don't get any federal assistance because they don't recognize that I was actually living below the poverty line.

Don't worry, that was the simplified version, but I'm well aware that it makes NO sense. Which is why I'm finding someone else. I know I'm being screwed but I can't figure out how to unscrew myself!

You should get an accountant because there is an awesome tax credit for tuition. I got almost everything back last year because of tuition.

Turbo tax is a great product, if you haven't tried it, you should. You can do it all online and it includes electronic filing. Essentially it asks you a whole bunch of questions and based on your answers, it prepares your return and uncovers all of your deductions. You can try it for free. You do not have to pay until you actually hit the 'file' button.

I'm so glad we don't have to go through this, it's taken out of my wages every week automatically. I think I'd be in jail by now if I had to sort out my own taxes.

I filed em online...got all of 42 bucks back and promptly spent it on two pairs of shoes that I definitely did not need.
