Dammit! I'd just shuffled around my stock portfolio so that 50% of it is in Joe Schmoe Memory, Inc.

just an fyi-- somewhere around here is a thread from a guy who worked at a digital processing lab, and he said that all too frequently, the larger sized- cards-- 512 to 1 gig-- would be corrupted and the pictures lost.* He said it happened all the time.** ** Now, I don't know if this applies to all types of memory, but it is something to think about.
I got a Viking 256 meg CF and 1 pic got corrupted soon after my trip - and I just noticed another one did too (it's been about a year now, tho). Maybe it's due to the large size of the memory? I don't know what brand names would be good or bad - there's really not that many to choose from. Well, good thing I DL'd the pics ASAP so still got all the pics saved, at least.

Canon Powershot Digital Elphs have nearly no redeye or pic distortion. The photo quality is about as good as it gets. Here's a really good review site with sample pics, etc that you can see the diferences with.

i use 256 meg cards (sandisk) all the time and have never had that happen. maybe it's that brand.

i'm no memory expert, but the manuals do say the cards are good for something like 10000 writes (don't quote me!). does that mean if i take 10000 single pics and delete each right after taking it that the pics after that are subject to corruption? just to be sure i'm tyring to fill up my card before deleting the pics all off it.... might not do a thing.... but it can't really hurt
