My computer won't wake up!
I know we've got some Mac users on here, so maybe you've encountered this before. When I turn it on, I don't get any further than the apple logo screen. It just sits there until the battery runs down and it dies. I've tried restarting it several times, taking out the battery, the "drop test," and nothing seems to work... I'm leaving in a few weeks, so this couldn't happen at a worse time!
Any suggestions?

Mine did that. Try booting from your OS X install disk and running Disk Utility. Insert the DVD or CD, hold the power button down to get the bugger to turn off... if it doesn't respond, I hate saying this but try unplugging it. Let it sit for 30 seconds or so, and hit the start button and hold down the C key. This causes the computer to boot up from the disk. You'll find Disk Utility in the sub menus that pop up.
After resetting the PRAM a couple of times, I ran the disk utility but didn't understand the error message I got. I went to the "genius" bar at the Apple store and he told me that I had to re-install OS X, something I felt like I should have figured out on my own without wasting the time setting up an appointment. No big deal, it just took a little bit of time.
Check out the "support" section at apple.com as well... you can find out how to do pretty much anything & everything to diagnose your problem there.
FYI: If you need to bring your mac to the apple store, go online at apple.com and make an appointment there for the earliest slot (walking in doesn't usually work in your favor). This is something else that could have saved me a lot of time.

Yeah, I'd take it in ASAP.
I had a problem with my Macbook constantly shutting off. I took it in and they called me up 3 hours later and told me to come in a pick it up!
Works beautifully ever since

Thanks for the info, guys! If I can find the damn install CD I'll try to reload it myself, otherwise I guess I'm off to the Apple Store.

The problem with your MB (and mine btw), is due to a hardware issue. I love my Apple notebooks as much as anyone but with my MB, Apple had to replace pretty much every component, the only thing they didn't replace is the enclosure and LCD.
There's also a diagnostic utility on OSX install discs and if you can't find the cds, it shouldn't be very hard to obtain them online.

Yes, that is the disk utility mentioned earlier. Except "obtaining" them online basically means re-purchasing the operating system... not that I'd advise the "ahoy there matey" approach, but do you by any chance know anyone else with a mac? You could probably borrow their install disks to figure out what's going on.

If it was a PC I'd try reseting the bios but I don't know if that's esaly done with laptops or macs and it shouldn't really be the source of the problem seeing as you haven't made any hardware changes. But with a pc if it won't pass the start up screen it's a hardware fault which could be some connection inside has become loose, I wonder how that happened. Try the drop test again.

Yup. And if nothing else works, the last thing you can try is the drop-kick test.
It has a zero percent success rate, but it feels so good.

Good call on the Mac Store! I took it in today and they had me back up and running within 10 minutes. They don't charge anything unless you need new parts or something. That alone makes buying Apple worthwhile- most places won't even look at your computer without charging a "diagnostic fee" or something.
Thanks again for the help!

I think I am converting to Apple. I haven't always been a PC user, but I have been since 1992 and my father was a computer scientist since the early 70's and always prefered the PC, but it is hard to get good PC service anymore. My father was a graduate student of Gary Kildall.
I think a Mac will do. I love the geeks at the Mac store.
Does anyone remember the Laser 128, a Apple II compatible computer? I had one of those. The memories are great.

Ah people have just gone lazy, the tradition has always been to do it yourself but you loose the will to keep fixing your pc after a while.
I've only ever used a mac once and hated it. I felt like a right numpty trying to right click all the time,
