Canadian phones in Asia

Will a Canadian-bought Siemens a-56 cell phone operate normally in the East Asian countries?

I bought this model several years ago. I know the model is slightly obsolete now. My question is should I throw it away or try something else?

In China, I tried 2 times to crack or unlock the phone's brain but the Chinese technicians weren't able to do help me.

Is it at all possible to convert this phone to be Asia-friendly? Before, It operated on the Canadian frequency only.

By the way, this phone is not Tri band

I kinda doubt it, but you can double check on line by going to the Siemens website and checking out the info on your model. Did you have a contract back home? We got stung when we moved from Lithuania to Germany because the phone co. put a lock on our phone so we could only use their sim cards for two years or something. We finally got that sorted out (we think) but can't find the battery charger to check!

I would think that the local experts would be able to fix it if it were at all possible, those guys are brainiacs, so unless the Siemens website gives you new hope, I'm guessing you'll have to buy a new model. If you're going to be in Asia for a while, it's probably worth the investment, anyhow.

Good luck.

You're almost better picking up a new tri-band phone in Asia... Far as I know they aren't commonly locked, like the U.S. ones.

(I should have kept my Middle Eastern Nokia, I could put any chip into it, so essentially I had a worldwide phone)
