I'll be in central and south america in a couple of months going crazy with my digital camera and was wondering if anybody knew of the availability of shops that can burn my photos from my memory card to a CD for me. I was thinking of getting an iPod photo to put my photos on, but just getting them burt to a CD is a much cheaper alternative and i wanted to know how feasible the idea is for the areas that i will be travelling.

cheers.

Well, when I was in El Salvador last November, I saw lots of camera shops in the two towns I stayed in. Not sure how much they charge to burn copies onto a CD, though.

One thing I just thought of, though (new to the digital camera revolution that I am). I would go somewhere with the CD and check and make sure the photos are indeed there. It would be awful to take all the photos, erase your memory card, then get home and find you can't read the CD...

Might I add one thing, maybe get two copies made. Send one home and keep one with you. THis way if you happen to lose one there is a chance another is waiting for you at home. Or if you send one home and it gets lost, well you still have your backup.

I am a "always keep a backup" type person though so it might just be me that does this.

well, all you really have to do is go to an internet cafe, and then either (1) upload the pics to an email or storage acount, or (2) bring a memory stick and through you picks on that...most PCs have a USB port now, so its really that simple

E-Mailing my pictures take FOREVER because they're all pretty big unfortunatly. Is there any website you can post them on without having to download stuff? Like with community webshots you have to download their software. But is there one where you can just post really big pictures quickly?

also, do they have that 'make a cd of your pictures' thing a lot in europe, specifically portugal?

thanks!

The idea of just using a memory stick never even occurred to me, funny how i forget the simplest approaches. I think my plan of attack will be to put my photos on a memory stick, then when i get 600MB worth on the stick i'll get them burnt to 2 discs, one to send home and one to keep with me.

Thanks for the help guys

Have you guys ever thought about a card reader for your memory cards? its just a little device that allows your memory card to become a mass storage device, like a jump drive. it just plugs right into a usb port. then you can upload them on a site like photobucket or email them to a large email account like gmail. its what i plan on doing.
