I want to get an iPod to store my digi photos on while i'm travelling. I saw the iPod photo and thought that this was the only one that i could use for this purpose. However, i got to thinking, and decided that you must be able to store photos on any iPod as its really just a harddrive. 5 seconds worth of research showed me that this was the case. Belkin have made the iPod Media Reader. Does anyone use one of these??

I thought it would be a great way to save some money instead of buying the iPod photo. However the combined cost of a 20GB iPod, the media reader, and Dock is $637AUD compared to the 30GB iPod photo at $499AUD, so i guess i'll be sticking with the iPod photo. They always get you with the accessories

Its not worth it. I bought one for Europe and only used it once. Its really slow & KILLS your batteries on both your ipod & the reader. If you have a large flash card for your camera you're more likely to drain that batteries before the reader has even finished transferring the files. Its a really cool idea they've come up with...but I think it needs some work.

A way better idea is to just take your memory card into a photoshop and have the store put your flash card on disc for you & mail it somewhere safe. One of the first things I did when I got back from Europe was sold the damn thing on ebay.

What you may want to invest in for an ipod is the battery back up pack. I loved using this as I met someone on their last few days in Europe and she gave me like 25 batteries.

is it just for the media reader used in conjunction with an iPod that this battery problem exists? Or does the same thing happen when tranferring photos to the iPod Photo as well??

yeah, i thought about this but i wasn't sure of the availability of places that can do this in some of the countries i'm going to, particularly central and south america.

How the whole thing works is you plug the media reader into your ipod then you plug your flash card into the media reader. The ipod is usually the first thing to die, although the batteries in the media reader (AA) are never far behind.

Any decent sized city should have a photoshop that can transfer the files...but I was in Europe...not S.A

There's a new cable that'll connect an iPod Photo right to your camera - they still suck up battery life, but not as bad as the media-reader-adapter thingamajig, and there are still speed issues, but at least it's better.. Still, I see nothing wrong with going in and getting a CD burned

i'm gonna buy an iPod so i can listen to music anyway so i might as well get the most out of it as possible. If this photo thing isn't feasible then i'll buy and iPod Mini instead and save myself $200.
