Hey all,

Just wondering whether anyone has tried taking a mobile phone to europe on their travels? Can u just get a prepaid card that allows u to call from anywhere in Europe?

They have prepaid phone cards, prepaid cell phones, or some phones you can buy new chips for different parts of the world. The latter is the more expensive one probably.

In order for your mobile phone to work in Europe, you need one that is tri-band (I think thats what they call it). Not too many phones have this capability, but if yours does, you still will need to buy phone chip cards in the local country to make calls.

I rented one, it didn't really work well.

The lines were too busy between noon and 4pm(Cental Euro Time, Paris, Rome, Stockholm ect.) so you had to wait until after those times if you wanted to call overseas. I used Orange(a French mobile phone company).

Oh, also, yea, I wouldn't recommend it, just use payphones.
