K, after debating over a cheaper mp3 player for my trip or an ipod, I decided on a black ipod nano. My sister has an ipod so I can use her USB and her charger and stuff. Plus I like the playlists and it's not THAT much more than the mp3 players I would end up buying.

so I check online for availabilty and this store has 1. I use my lunch break to go to the store and get one. well, they actually don't have one, so I go back to work.

Then I use my evening to go to the store by my house later. I buy one and go home. I didn't open it right away because I wanted to get all my stuff done and then sit at the computer and have fun with getting it all set up before going to bed.

I open the box and it's EMPTY! (the cords and software must have added weight) grrrr- they only had one left so I can only assume that it's still sitting in the display case. who sells a customer an expensive piece of electronics and then gives them an empty box!??

I was a little worried that they would think I stole it- but I spent $200 and got an empty box!!!! I'm not a very agressive person but if they question me....well, they're not going to- because I didn't get my ipod and I paid for it!! :rulz: and there's a lone ipod in their display case without a box.

sigh
hey, this site is good for ranting- thanks for listening- er reading- everyone!

Holy shit!! call the store tomorrow ASAP. I'm sure they won't think you're lying. They've GOT to have an iPod sitting around somewhere without a box. What a freaking moron.

And FYI, your own iPod will come with a USB cable and charger so you shouldn't have to use your sister's. ;)

Actually, some of the cheaper packages don't even come with the power brick anymore. Just the cable, and it charges off your computer, or you can buy an extra brick. My 30gb just came with a cable. Not that I don't have a bunch of iPod power bricks laying around...

how many freakin ipods do you have omi?!

Hollz 06-06-2006 10:50 AM

K, the manager said he would give me a free case for my ipod worth $20.
That's pretty good I guess, I wanted to buy one anyways but i wanted to wait till next payday.

If I would have acted really mad I wonder if I would have gotten more....
oh well, I've given enough free stuff to mean customers- I don't like those people.

benna2 06-06-2006 02:35 PM

Hollz, what was the reaction of the store manager when you told him this? Did you just explain that you ended up with an empty box or what??

Good thing it is sorted out though and hey....a free case is always a good thing!

Note about the iPod Nano- they break easily. I have a friend who worked at Best Buy, and told me 3 months after buying Nanos 70% of them are returned. So, make sure you have your warranty handy--just in case!

Hollz 06-06-2006 09:28 PM

Really? 70% are returned? I was wondering about the expensive extended warrany...but then I thought I'll probably just get it stolen in Europe and then it'll be even more expensive. There's a 90 day warranty right now -but then I won't be here in Augusut when it'll run out.

He didn't SAY anything really, but he acted concerned and I think he was genuinely upset that it happened.

HOWEVER, more to my ipod adventure- some guy at my work told me today that TD Bank is giving away free ipod nanos if you switch your checking account over to them and get a visa. I'm going tomorrow at lunch with a coworker and I'm going to make sure that it's worth the hassle, and see what the yearly charges will add up to. Then I'll just the return the one I just bought and keep the case.

Methinks this was all trying to prevent me from buying one and leading me towards a free one from the bank.....

I know I have given mine a beating and it still keeps going. I don't have the mini though, I have the regular 4th gen iPOD, but I have been impressed with it. I will be closing in on two years with it shortly and normally I tear right through stuff like this. The only thing wrong with it is a small part of the LCD is messed up. I went ahead and walked into a bench with it and it hit the bench LCD face first. I hit it hard though, I actually knocked over the park bench when I did it.

TCF Bank (Twin Cities Financial) is also giving away free Ipod Nano's when you open an account with them. They have minimal fees if any. I know they are at least in Minnesota and Michigan...

Let's see, in a thread where you have people talking about how well-built their iPod is and only one hearsay statistic of unreliability, you're calling iPod owners fools. Gee, thanks for the enlightenment. I'm so floored by the logic and hyper-evolved grammar that I think I'm going to throw out my iPods now and buy some off-brand, second-tier, industrial-design-farmed-out-to-Korea player so I can rebel against the dominant brand. :sly:

Hollz 06-08-2006 10:51 AM

I have now switched my chequing account to get an ipod shuffle- the visa card you need to qualify for the ipod nano costs $100 for an annual fee.

But the silly thing is, I decided that i wanted to keep the Nano i already bought. I did all of this bank stuff to save some money, but the thing is I'm really big on listening to "that" song when in a certain situation, or en route to a certain place so I don't want a shuffle anymore.

I wanted to cancel it today but it would cost $15, so I felt pretty dumb that I was switching around my accounts for a stupid shuffle. But THEN, the lady at the bank noticed on my profile that I was taking out all my money for a trip and advised me to make sure I had difference sources of funds and cards. So I realised was actually a good idea to put my chequing account at a different institution. I was feeling like it was alot of trouble to go through for an ipod shuffle...but it's all good.. and now I have a backup if something happens to my nano.

phew. This is more like my 'ipod blog' than a thread. I guess everyone that reads all of my ipod posts are pretty bored at work! haha. Hey, maybe it'll help others in the same situation- who knows?

thatgirlwholaughs 06-08-2006 11:22 AM

so impressed was i with the insurance coverage and general reliability of my ipod(s), i went ahead and made the pc switch. for now i'm still adjusting, but all in all, i'm very pleased.
