Australia Work/Holiday Visa 462
Anyone who has used this visa, I have a question.
It "requires" proof of funds of $5,000(AUD) or more. Anyone have a problem getting a visa with less than the 5000 equivalent in their bank account?
Thanks!

Well you're supposed to send proof with the visa application, but I think if you can get $5k into your account long enough to get a statement from your bank that would do it. If you could borrow it or something just for a day you'd be all set.
The BUNAC sites mention they recommend you have $700-1000 so I take that to mean this is a common tactic.
Also keep in mind that's 5k australian, about 4k USD. And you need to have around 1.5-2k for the flight and visa fee plus a few dollars to get you started there (unless you're going to use credit) so you wouldn't have to borrow the full amount.

I'm hoping to get the flight for a graduation present, or at least mostly paid for. I have a free place to stay for 2+ weeks in Perth as well, so that I am not worried about. I guess you're right about that though, student loans could get me up past 4,000 American with no problem. Granted that would go right back into Ball States hands within the week haha.
But good idea regardless, I didn't even think of that. I'm sure I could deposit it, go to the bank and ask for a official statement and send that in.

Just make sure to figure out exactly what the immigration office will count as official. They can be very picky about the exact format of these things and who/how they were certified. Also look to see how close to the app date they want documentation to make sure you don't have something too old.
If you're going to use BUNAC they're supposed to help with this although I don't know if they'd be helpful before you pay your fee.

A friend of a friend said she didn't ever have to show proof. Interesting. Granted I'm not sure how long ago she did it. She did it online, and was approved within 24 hours.
So I guess we'll see.

I applied for my visa online in jan I think it was and was approved in about 12 hours. I never had to show proof of funds and i don't even have a return flight lol. heck I didn't even have all the money until a few days before I left. It's always worth a try and if they ask for those things then aquire them and apply then.

Yah I had a bank statement and return ticket and the customs officer in Sydney International Airport did not care and just stamped my passport. I met alot of people who did not have a return ticket home and even one who did time in jail and they were all allowed into the country on a working holiday visa.

Australia was established largely as a British penal colony. Criminality is at our roots. We love that shit!
