First move out of country!!
Well it finally happened. I heard from Sweden the other day and I am officially accepted to go to grad school at the University of Stockholm. It took for what seemed like forever but I'll be there for two years starting this August. It's my first time living abroad(not travelling for those who don't know me) and I cannot freaking wait!
Anywho, thought I'd throw that out there for the folks who know me and hopefully some who don't who have experience living abroad...expecially in a country like Sweden.
Y'all rock but you know that already!

By the way, if anyone needs/wants an excuse to visit Sweden/Stockholm/Northern Europe/Any part of Europe....you have accomodation if you want it. I present the backpackers' offer of solidarity , you bring the beer and you stay rent free!

Yeah well that's a long story. We split up 5 months ago and I moved to Arizona while waiting to hear from the schools in Sweden.
I will be getting an M.A. in Social Anthropology. I originally applied for that and International and Comparative Education. I figured I could parlay both into a professorship or something teaching future teachers about how to incoporate more of a world view into their teaching, whatever that may be. As I was looking into teaching abroad I came upon a few programs that led me to think about my own education here in the U.S. With the way this world is shrinking and how easy and necessary it is to know and cooperate with people from other cultures I thought about how nationalistic and at times arrogant people from this country can be and I would love to be one of the people that just "slaps" someone and say, "hey, there's more out there than us, trust me it will help you." Basically I would love to say that people I teach think about the world the same way the folks on this site see the world, with an open and interested mind.
so yeah, that's why I did it.

Congrats, we had a ball living in Lithuania while my husband went to school there. We've had lots of opportunities to live overseas both before and after, but the difference between academic life and him having a real job was pretty striking.
Take advantage of all the programmes offered for foreign students - we got in on some exclusive tours and unique trips that weren't available to the general public, and you really haven't lived til you've tried to wrest a bus out of a swamp in the pouring rain, with thirty other people who's only shared language is introductory Lithuanian...

The last sentence of this is exactly why I love travelling. We travellers have the best random-ass stories, hands down.
