So I'm going to Barcelona next summer for a TEFL course, and after I'm done, I'd love to be able to visit the country I really consider home: Portugal (I spent my senior year in Leiria as an exchange student). However, I'm not sure I can raise enough money to go there in time, and staying with the old host family (psycho agoraphobes) is out, which is where a job comes in. Anyone know of any good oppurtunities? I know that I'm probably limited to the Algarve, but I can deal with that.

What is your citizenship? If you're US, you're probably going to need to look into under the table jobs (working at a hostel, restaurant, hotel, cleaning houses, child care, teaching English). Otherwise, you may qualify to legally work Europe, in which case, you can just start looking for/at jobs you qualify for.

You can start off by doing a work exchangework exchange. Perhaps that could eventually pan into a job or they could assist you with finding one. Otherwise, go through classifieds now and maybe just look up "work in Portugal" through Google or something.

I'm American, and I have no problem doing under the table work. Anything that lets me keep traveling is good.

There are so many people working in the hostels and bars of Lagos during summer time. It's all under the table and lowly paid but it's a good party town!

Sounds perfect! I prefer the norther parts of Portugal, the Algarve's too touristy for me, but after a tough school year and a tough TEFL course, some time in a party town would be a nice change!

I completely agree that your best bet would be Lagos. Although, now don't quote me on this because it sounds kind of wrong, I heard that to advertise outside bars, bringing people in and whatnot, you got 10 euros or something a night...but it was really to do nothing and all your alcohol was provided. Working in Lagos would be a blast though!
