Unfortunately I don't know anything about the european work camps, but I know that you can do something like that in Canada. For the last 4-5 years friends of mine went up north to plant trees. They bring up their basic camping gear, they have to buy some equipement (one time fee) and they get food and compensation (calculated by the number of trees they planted). From what I understand you can go up for anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months. Since you are in the middle of nowhere you have nowhere to spend the money, so if you work diligently you can come home with quite a chunk of change. Hope that helps!

Don't believe what they tell you about work camps in Europe. The scene from Dachau is NOT this happy:

A workcamp is a place where people of all races, ideologies, and nationalities live and work together for two to four weeks on a project organized by a local sponsor. Most workcamps occur during the summer months and have between 10 and 20 international participants. They volunteer, they socialize and they work with the local people. They are a multicultural, voluntary workforce.
what is a workcamp?
