I was able to find a job at a hostel just from staying there a few days. I ran out of money and the manager told me that I could work in the office to pay for my room. It was great, I only worked a few hours a week and got to live there for free. I loved working in the office because it gave me a chance to meet everyone that came to stay there.

So if you are going to be staying in one place for a while you can ask to talk to the manager about working at the hostel. I'd say thats the best way is face to face.
Good luck!
