Ok the thing about daves esl cafe is that they dont like backpackers. It's hard to believe I know. Who wouldn't like us?

People who teaching english as a profession that's who. They believe we are just out to teach english long enough to make some cash before hitting our next destination. And well that happens to be true but whatever.

If you can ignore that and dig for the gold on that site you will find more information about esl than it's anyones business to know. If you don't feel like dealing with snot rags like them then ask me.

Don't take an online esl course if you want to get a job at a respectable establishment. It used to be that just speaking english was enough to get you a job. Then it was that getting one of those nifty online dimplomas was enough coupled with your native english skills. Not unfortunately most of the schools that you would desire to be employed at want you to have a GOOD diploma from a Internationally Recognized school.

They cost a bit more and it is normally about a month-long commitment but the pay-offs are much better. You will have actually taught several real students by the end of your study and will be much more prepared to face the non-english world as a teacher.

So look into getting your CELTA from a cambridge university accreddited course and that (though a bit more expenisive) will be much much better for you.

Here's a link to a list of their schools.
Canbridge CELTA

the CELTA is the most internationally recognized esl teaching certificate and has the highest standards for the instructors that teach it.
If you want a decent paying english job this is the certificate to get.

I researched it for six months and had finally decided on going to spain to take the CELTA and then at the last second i bought a plane ticket to Brasil instead and spent two months there

I do plan on eventually getting my CELTA, more than likely in Barcelona but I dont have it yet.
