Help Needed

Here's the situation:

I am very interested in going to England for the first time for my summer break between semesters at college. The summer is my only chance to travel overseas because of my committment to playing college tennis during the school year(It's paying for my schooling, so no way out).

So, I'm wondering if I should use BUNAC for the 3 months over summer (The visa lasts for 6 months), or if I should just go over there and try to do some under the table jobs at a pub or something. I just want to travel and experience different cultures. I have no preference of what kind of work really. I think a pub would be fun. I can also teach tennis, but this is not an option through the BUNAC program. I'm not sure if I need a visa to teach tennis in England or not. What do you guys think?

How much is reasonable airfare from Atlanta to somewhere in England?

try to leave in may. if you leave before june(peak time) you can saw a couple hundred bucks. also, crazy airline stuff going on right now. search this site for airfare info. there are cool search engines, like travelocity.com, and others that look for great deals.

Try looking into a work visa, Im not too sure on England itself and how they work but Im sure they have one, many other TP'ers have been over there they can help you with that. Gettin under the table work in a pub apperently isnt that hard I have her of lots of people get jobs like that, just make sure you get paid out frequently you dont wanna work 2 weeks and have your employer screw you outta your cash. Ummm as far as teaching tennis, you can always go down too the local club and say your an american pro blah blah blah just run your mouth a bit and see what ahppens you never know. Flights now there is something I can help you on, try www.studentuniverse.com or www.statravel.com I find that they are wicked. sta is a nice travel agent cause they have outlets all over the world, make sure if you get a ticket with them its a blue ticket cuase then you can get refunds on cancelations and not lose all your money if you have too cancel.

I think I may try to get some under the table work. That seems to be the simplest solution. You think I'll be ok with that if I just go over there with enough money to get on my feet with a flat and just try to find work? Kinda scary just going and not having too much money or a place to stay. But, that's where the adventure is right?

If you get really freaked about the money thing, dont go for a flat find a hostel that will let you work for accomodation, this will save you 100-150 a week, now thats a lot of dough when your a budget traveler.

Try staying in youth hostels...everything is expensive here in England (and I mean EVERYTHING), so hostelling is one of the few ways to save money. Getting an 'under the table' job as you call it will be no problem, pubs and bars will take anyone really!!

im heading over to England too. Does anybody know around what the pubs pay? Or any other partime job an American can get there?
