'Lo,

I'm new(&ja...ihave a question), but i think i've been kitted out pretty well with the info you guys have on the boards, i've sortof just been lurking&learning.

Just wanted to ask advice on the topic of busking, ja?
I'm of the artistically inclined nature so i figured i could loaf around Europe with paints and such - OOh! And i can make Zulu beaded letters...sortof...which the Europeans should luv, right?(South African...)

Do i need a permit or something?

I don't want to count on bar tending or waitressing to much, tend to drop stuff at inappropriate times.

I was planning on starting in UK - on to France - through to Italy -(didn't quite figure out how to motor it over to the Neth's tho.

Hows busking with a language barrier? (In France&Italy - i speak Afrikaans which is sortof like Dutch...more slang tho.)

Thanks hey, in advance.

Hey there Say:Eish to the family!!!

I would say that BUking is a good idea! I met people who had been travling for months and months and just getting but on what the made busking. A couple of tips,

Do not argue with police if they tell you to move along, most places require you to have a permit, but if you do not really bug anyone, then you should be fine.

Do not venture into other buskers/street performer/homeless person/gypsy territory, the last thing you need is to have a argument or even worse a fight break out!

As for the language issue, I think your wares will speak for themselves, good produxt will prob equal good sales!

Good luck!

We would love to add you pic to the family tree so send you picture to tp@travelpunk.com

Thanx for the advice, Canadian Dude
The bit about fighting with homeless people freaked me out a bit... nah, joke we have the scariest bergies in the world down here!
I would prefer busking with wares cos people can't really rip you off, right? - youre the busker as opposed to the struggling-under-the-table-waiter...
But then how long would it take to make decent money? - i want to get out as well, s'ppose it could double as people watching time tho...
Where'd i get a 'busking'permit? My country or over there?
Thanx for the help

Hey,
I have seen people myself included throw some FAT coin at buskers, I find the street preformers who can make people laugh or do soemthing "diffrent" make the most money, followed byh painters and funny as seems those folks who just play music seem to make almost nothing.
however if your product is gonna be pretty kick ass then you should have no problem, a word of advice make some small stuff too like hemp necklaces or whatever, this way people dont have to lug a big picture around with them all day they can just throw it on and its not in the way, I bet you a months pay you would sell tons of that stuff
will

Mmmm...You've opened a previously unexplored option for me, i could actually make good money preforming...
Good point about the sketches and paintings, i probly avoid a busker like that just cos of the inconvenience, but what about preforming and selling at the same time?
They laugh, chuck some coins, laugh and then buy a momento of that crazy street preformer - sharp...
What about the language barrier? - I DON'T WANT TO BE A FRIGGIN' MIME!
Thank you much
