Whats anyone know about under the table jobs in New Zealand? My cousin who graduates this December is seriously considering moving there to work. If he does, I would consider going in May/June and stay there for the summer.

Anyone know or have any experience or restaurant or bar work that got paid under the table?

i don't know what your educational status is but i would check out BUNAC (i think you had posed about it earlier) they offer nz work visas.

I'm afraid I didn't work when I went to NZ, so can't offer any advice on getting a job. Remember that if you're going May/June time, it won't really be "high season" in many places... unless you're somewhere that's buzzing for the winter ski/snowboard season. Not sure how this will impact upon you getting a job.

I'm a 1st year senior, probably going for the 5 year plan... Yeah i've been looking at Bunac, but if my cousin were to head to New Zealand this summer, I'd have a free place to stay and really only need spending money(and pay rent back here in the states). Thus a bartender or something would be perfect.

I'm really looking at BUNAC post graduation though, been finding some interesting postings in my degree area.

not quite sure how tough it is to find bar/wait work under the table, but i know when i was there this year, they have major shortages in the agriculture/horticulture/viticulture industries in certain areas. so you can show up and get a temp visa on the spot to work at a vineyard or orchard. shitloads of recruiters. we literally stepped off our bus in blenheim, marlborough and were offered vineyard work.

theres a shit load of under the table jobs in nz. fruit picking and bar work are the main easy to get into jobs.

just look thru www.nzherald.co.nz classifieds or www.trademe.co.nz employment section (i think they have one now?)

yeah I wouldent worry about it, you should be able to find heaps of work. A good option if your going around summer time so decemberish then I would head up to the bay of Islands a town called Kerri Kerri and they have a shit load of orchards there and also a couple vinyards, you should find work there no problem!
Again bar work is also huge, in Auckland there are several Irish pubs and I find those great places to work if your a forigner.
Other then that you may find a way to make some cheddar by working in a painting company or on a building site, just pick up the local newspaper and look through it for jobs like that, manual work dosnt pay much but they usualy dont ask about your work legalities eaither and they sometimes if your lucky pick you up and drop you off the next day.
Cheers!
