Jamming Overseas?

Hey everyone,

I play bass, and would LOVE to get some jamming in overseas with some people if possible. How possible is this? I could bring my bass, but that seems silly.. are there places to jam? Open Mics or what not? Musican communities?

Anyone do this?

Im a professional musician, and would be able to sit in with just about anyone. I need me some overseas funk.

You should have no difficulty finding places once you get into town - just pick up the local entertainment guide (often at metro stations) and look around for your kind of music/open mike nights/jam sessions, etc. Without your own bass it may be a little harder to join in. Also, ask at the hostel, at music stores (they often have posters up for upcoming events) and whatever else you stumble across. Read the flyers that are posted on hoardings and at bus stops and such. It's a bit more difficult to find this kind of info out in advance, but shouldn't be hard in country. If you did bring your bass, you could probably set up with a guitarist and busk to your mutual advantage...

Humm, now I have to evaluate if its worth it to carry my bass all over for.. potentially no reason. I'd have to find a place with an amplifier, and ontop of that, carry my massive bass with me everywhere. Obviously I'd have to bring the electric, the upright would just be insanity. Hummm.. I'll have to think about this one.

im a bass player from wellington-new zealand if your heading out these ways we got jam nights and there is plenty of gigs to sit in on around town.am on travels myself at the moment and having a break from the playing so not sure about other places but check out talkbass.com if you wanna meet up with other musos

Oh yeah, I assumed you meant an electric...an acoustic would be, well, you said it, insanity! I don't think hostels would have a place to store it...

If you know which cities you're going to, why not google around and see if you can find a music site that talks about jam sessions and such for those individual cities? That'll give you a better idea of the likelihood of joining in, and make the decision to take or not to take a little easier.
