Buenos Aires for 4 Days??

I am going to Buenos Aires on Sunday and have never been before. I will only be there for 4 days seeing as I will be flying on my mom's trip. (shes a flight attendant). What should I see during the day that she also may enjoy? What should I see that I may enjoy? And what are some clubs or bars that are a good time?? Thanks for the help once again!!!

Hey! First of all, do you know where you'll be staying at? If you can on Sunday go to Plaza Dorrego, in the San Telmo neighbourhood where you'll find couples dancing atngo it's really nice and I bet your mum will love it too. At this park there's a street fair with some really old/antique stuff... it's a must in Buenos Aires, but I think it only goes on the weekends. From there you can take a taxi and go to Caminito, which is this street, also in the San Telmo neigbourhood that is painted all in different colours, it used to be the old slums of Buenos Aires, so people painted their houses with the paint they would get from the ships at the harbour. At Caminito you will find street vendors, couples dancing tango.... it's a lovely atmosphere...


If you happen to enjoy soccer, only three blocks away is the Boca Stadium with it's museum, which is pretty new and really modern and it's got all the story of the team Boca Juniors which is pretty much the story of Argentine football in itself (and even though I dont like him, Maradona belonged to this team).

The historical part of the city is in the city center (which now happens to be also the business downtown) here, to the sides of Plaza de Mayo you will find the Casa Rosada (where the President works), the Cabildo, the Cathedral, Ministry of Economy, etc. Really interestting (just dont find it weird if you happen to come across a demonstration).

The Obelisco is also a Buenos Aires trademark... that's where soccer wins are celebrated, where protests take place and where averyne goes ater Argentina won a game at the World Cup...

Your mum might enjoy the Opera House, called Teatro Colón, which used to be in the top 5 of the Opera Houses in the world.

I also recomend taking a stroll thru Puerto Madero really scenic... and also checking out the Puente de la Mujer (Woman's Bridge). This is the place where all the good (pricier) restaurants are.


If you and your mum are into shopping (and even if you dont want to specifficly buy anything), there's the Galerías Pacífico Shopping Mall which has a great architectural style and I'm sure your mum will really enjoy it.

Barrio Palermo is a well known neigbourhood as well... also with a fair with vendors, and a great place to start the night: it's got great restaurants and bars.... so you could have dinner with your mum and then go for drinks and later on go dancing. The part with the restaurants in it is known as "Palermo Hollywood" and the part with local designers/clothes/home decoration/really nice shops and your dollars will go a long way. This part is known as "Palermo Soho". It's nice to check it out in the afternoon and staying at night to eat. You may find this area in guide books by the name of Paremo Viejo.

If you tell me the hotel where you'll be staying at I might be able to find more things to do. Close to the Obelisco are a lot of "theme restaurants" with tango shows. They are really good, but quite the turist trap... so you could try it once, but then i'd check out the restaurants in Palermo.

And for night clubs, after a bar crawl (keep in mind that night clubs start filling up at about 2.30am) you've got Mint, Opera Bay, Museum - get's really good on Tuesdays, Pacha - if you're more into techo music.

You didnt mention where you are fro or how old you are ... I just realised your name's Eric... so the shopping part goes to your mum.

Oh! what's also really good is the MALBA (Museum of Lantin American Art in Buenos Aires). But well... name a few of your interests and I might be able to point out some more stuff.

Now tips:
-It's autumm here, so it's getting chillier... deffinitely bring some sweaters and shoes (not sandals). And an umbrella just in case.
-This is going to sound stupid, but please always alwayscheck really well before crossing a street, even if you have the pedestrian signal in your favour. We are mostly descendant from Italians... so we get their amazing food, our Spanish accent that sound almost like italian... and their reckless driving...
-A MUST: eat steak... you'll find all sorts of restaurants for all kinds of budgets.... so eat stake and BBQ. And also pasta (a 10% tip is what everybody gives the waiter).
-As in any other big city be aware of your belonings, there are a lot of pickpockets.

I'm not sure WHEN I'll get to Argentina exactly.....Are you planning to be around next year? Maybe we can plan a mini (or big) tpunk meetup?

\OK, im planing a trip in late august, what kind of weather should i be prepared for. Also, my spanish is very limited (to knowing a few words here and there) how difficult will it be to get around on that. And get around outside of BA, i would like to visit some other parts of the country.

Well, it gets quite cold here in Buenos Aires.. and pretty much everywhere else in the country. Of course weather is relative... where are you from. I think in Agust it'll be about 5-12 ºC during the day, perhaps from 3-7º (a bit colder by night).

I wouldnt worry too much about the language. A lot of people speak at least a bit of English in Buenos Aires (specially downtown)... but will be delighted to help out (hehe, at least the people i know of) I dont think it'll be too difficult to get around... ie: if the bus driver doesnt speak English there will be someone else to help out. I wouldnt worry too much about it.

Ok... I am from Florida... not originaly, ive lived in some extreme cold climates (russia) but, i guess its not too bad, so some warmer clothing would be good.
I will study up on some spanish just in case, i need to know the basics, i took 3 years in High school, but that was 6 years ago.
