Is it safe to go to Brazil-Rio at least (dont know have travel plan) alone. I am white male and look about 16 lol.

Also, will my basic Spanish be off any use at all?

If not, where is a good safe place in S.America to go. I'll want a bit sightseeing, I like football (so thats a keen interest for me) and apart from that just drink maybe some drugs and sexy latin girls haha.

Also, I quite like small quaint but still touristy fun towns. i.e. Kesky Crumlov in Czech Rep. and Greek/Spanish isles etc.

So, any places like this in S.America?

Oh yeah I prefer scenic things rather than man-made?? Like amazing landscapes etc rather than museums.

Rio by all accounts is incredible. I am a big fan though of Floripa to the south or Ponta Negra in the north. Smaller towns, beautiful beaches, less tourists, more locals....

I didn't have any problems in Rio with street crime, but it is an acknowledged fact of life there. Just take your usual precautions and you should be fine. What I do, for example, is to take a couple credit cards, but once I get there, I split them up (hiding one in my coat, bag or hotel room). That way, if your wallet gets lifted, you're not strapped. And definitely, definitely, call your credit card companies beforehand. Not just to let them know that you are going and not deny charges there, but also to get the number to call if you do lose (or have stolen) your card...

I wouldn't stress out about the crime, there, though. Go, have a good time -- just use common sense.
