hey, i was wondering, what do u guys think is a reasonable amount of time for a round the world ticket. i mean, how long would u think u have to plan your trip to be? 3 months? 6 months? i'm pretty good at fast paced trips but i didnt know what you guys felt was a reasonable amount of time.

also with rtw tickets, are their limitations to stops, etc. i've only looked into them a little bit but i'd definately like to do it something, i just wanted to see if anyone has some experience or advice about them.

I recently booked a three month RTW ticket. Obviously you can do it for less time, or more time, it really does depend on your personal situation. Like for me, I would have loved to book for longer, say 6 months, but work commitments mean it's just not possible. However, if you've got a decent amount of money (or plan on working while you're away), and don't have anything you need to go back home for, you can stay for as long as takes your fancy!

Some RTW tickets offer a certain number of stops (mine is 7 stops), while others offer a certain mileage (the most popular is 29,000 miles, I believe). Again, the more money you have, the more stops you can do!

The thing with the certain number of stops is that you don't have to fly out of the same place, so you can build up the number of places you go to by travelling by coach/train/car/however to somewhere else and then fly out of there.

Here is a pretty good site for planning those tickets. I believe you have to go through an agent once you figure it out though, Give you a rough estimate.

TERI, I should think you can go to a regular travel agent to book a ticket. However, there are some travel shops that specialise in RTW and long-haul travel. For example, where I live in England there is a place called "Travel Australia" which specialises in RTW, Oz, NZ and Asia. There may be someplace like that near you.

All sorts of airlines do RTW stuff. My trip involves British Airways, Qantas and Cathay Pacific.

Oh, also try STA travel (if they have those in Canada?!).

RootBrewskies, about the length of time to take for an RTW trip, well, that all depends how much you want to see. If you wanted to see Europe, Canada, South America and Asia then i'd say you need a year to get a half decent look at these places. However, if you just wanna check out Western Europe and Asia or something like that then you could get away with 4 - 6 months i reckon. It really all depends on how many places you want to see.
