Hi Guys n Galls

I'm living in northern England, and am thinking about taking one of those RTW tickets. Thing is that I work and am wandering whether that is feasable. Guess I'll be heading out of London easterly. Maybe hit somewhere in the far easy, then Auss, then LA NYC or something like.

Know I'm not a true backpacker but love the whole hostel thing and maybe this will be my first trip solo. Am I jumping in at the deep end.

Any suggested routes, sites for cheap tickets and opinions as to whether it is do able in 3 weeks, maybe a little longer.

2 trips planned so far, Canada in Sept and Rome in Oct. Warming up for the big one next year. Any dudes in those locations around those dates?

man, don't do a rtw on 3 weeks time! don't be a fool - sorry, i had to say that. you'll gain nearly nothing by scuffeling through cities at that rate. take it easy - life is kind of long...

Personally, I wouldn't want to do it if I only had 3 weeks. I know my grandparents looked into doing that and it was for 6 months. I think I'd be so exhausted and rushed that it wouldn't be the experience it should be. I'd say maybe it could be something for you to look forward to down the road when you can do it properly!!!!!! But that's just my opinion

just do australia - shit, three weeks will hardly be enough to cover that much! i know how it feels trying to reconcile a job, money, time off, places that NEED to be seen, etc... life's a bitch. even still, no point in saying i've been to japan - for 3 days! that's not a real visit, mate... i'm glad you're open to just one or two countries at a time. the stop over is do-able for sure, but it will only whet you appetite, it won't quench anything.

You should really fly in a plane roz, you don't want to expend all the unnecessary energy of doing it alone, plus it takes a REALLY long time, your arms'll get tired. Of course that's just my personal opinion

hey, i only do it bit by bit myself, mate. and for my lifestyle (slave worker), it's the smartest option. i say, why travel half way around the world to "tour" a country in 7 days time, that's bullshit. i try to devote a minimum of two weeks to any given destination, and if i really must, i'll only throw in one very close neighboring country.

my trip to europe last year consisted of: 11 days amsterdam, 12 days bavaria
this time around: 22 days thailand

you need so much time to get to the marrow inside the bones of these places. take time, even if you cover less ground all in all - i think you will gain more through patient, metered travelling.

i think a 3-5 day stopover in tokyo would be grand. pricey, but grand!

Hello! and welcome

Hehehe you sound a little like me... i was planning a trip to Bali, Thailand and Cambodia over 2 weeks! LOL!
The first week in Bali was going to be spent with a friend and then i was going to do a wham bam trip of Thailand and Cambodia... i kinda woke up realised how silly that would be... so rushed!
So now im going to just Bali for the 2 weeks... and more changes... going solo as my friend has cancelled on me
Oh and Thailand and Cambodia will happen! sometime:P

So yeah personally i think take your time!

happy travels
