Whew! What a list! How could you miss anything with that list! I''m going to Central America as well this winter. . I arrive Dec 11th. I'm doing my language school in Quetzaltenango. Make sure you post your stories since you are going a lil ahead of me.

That looks pretty good but is it supposed to be in order? I see you're planning to go south through South America along the western half of the continent down to Chile and Argentina, then come back north all the way to Venezuela. Did you pick that route for a reason (rather than doing everything in the north and working south in a single pass). It might make sense based on transportation, just curious!

it just made more sense to me to do a big loop instead of zigzagging, especially since most of the places i want to see are on the coast. if it's not working out so well when i get there i can always change my mind!

All I can ask is that you please stay around Tpunk after the trip. You will have more SA/CA experience than anyone on the boards.

What an awesome trip. I have always wanted to go to Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana! I recommend you check out Cordoba and Mendoza in central Argentina if you can, and since it looks like you'll be in the south a lot, take in northern Argentina as well (and around the falls) because it's so incredibly different than the south.

That does sound amazingly cool. Here are the only suggestions I'd make (though adding to a list that long seems insane!):
El Salvador
- Santa Ana (there are some cool volcanoes and scenery to check out in this area)
Peru
- Nazca Lines (it's kind of a wham-bam-thank you ma'am thing, but the 1/2 hour flight over the lines -- cost us $65 one week ago -- is pretty amazing). If you wanted to do extreme budget, you could take the overnight bus from Lima to Nazca, do the lines overflight first thing in the morning, and take the afternoon bus on south to wherever else you're headed.
And I echo the thought: Keep us posted on how things are going. Are you going to set up a blog for while you're away...? I'd love to read about your travels...
