Hahaha, I love the last part "recover from trip-plan-budget next trip" ! As for the itinerary self, yes very well organized congrats, but overloaded ! All this train to spend in fact one whole day in Vienna, then again hours in train for 24 hours in Venice and the same with Florence. Get rid of one or two cities and stay longer in the others. We always tell people to plan 3 nights minimum, or if you want to stay less longer, do it one time.

Where did you get the map from? I've seen a few people use that map but can't seem to find it anywhere.

Ya know, for as much as you have crammed in there, it seems like you have it set up as perfectly as possible. Your time is some cities will be very short, and if you're okay with that, looks great. You'll at least get a taste of where you may want to come back to to se spend some more time!

Wow... and I thought I was the only anal retentive mapper/calendar user

Nicely done.

Just a thought - maybe we can get some sort of TPunk calendar going (via WebDAV, perhaps) that we could update via Outlook or iCal. Probably too big a chunk to chew off, but it'd be cool if we could pull up a shared calendar to see where people's trips intersect and arrange for meetups, share tips, etc.

haha yeah I'm a little anal retentive...I just dont want to waiste any time at all. I dont want to get stuck somewhere without a train or ferry so I just began planning when they left.

As for Venice I agree its short, but I read that you can do the whole tourist thing (get lost in the winding streets) in a full day. The other problem is that no ferries leave til thursday and I dont want to spend that much time there.

I agree about Florence, Im gonna have to work on that. Im okay with one night in Nice because its so expensive. We're just stopping for the day to break the LONG train ride up into two sections.

I'll keep you updated bc Im probally making changes soon. Thanks for all your help!

ajb3000 - I got the map from http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_MAPS/0_map_e...01_enlarged.jpg

You know, if you're only stopping in Nice to break up the journey, why not choose a smaller town somewhere else along the route - you're seeing a lot of cities, maybe another mini-vacation from vacation would be in order. If you pick one along the same route, you won't have to adjust your schedule much (just a different arrival/departure time) and it might be a bit more relaxing to have a day in the country, rather than rushing around trying to see Nice... And perhaps a little cheaper, too.

I'm having a real big problem trying to find a bus that runs from Seville to Lagos (or Faro) on weekends. It seems that they only run on weekdays. Anyone ever travel that way before?

Okay so I updated it so it wouldn't be as busy and so there was less time on trains. Now I can catch a bus to lagos too!

You know, I was thinking about writing an app that did exactly that. The original idea was an itineary planner utilizing things like Google map and Google Earth via KML scripts. And if you have a GPS, even NEMA protocols. The reason I came up with this is because I too am planning a trip, like pretty things to look at, all I do is write web-based apps for a living, and to contribute back to TP. This wouldn't be too far fetched

Ahh my first post, was going to save it for another topic .. meh

Back to the topic, where did you find this map of Europe? Also, it seems kind of a waste of time travelling from Portugal to the City of weed and hash. Amstradam to Germany seems more logical, unless you have a hidden agenda
