Ok, so I will depart Denver on May 11th

City -- # of days in city

London -- 4 days (too expensive!!)

Amsterdam -- 5 days

Paris -- 5 days

Berlin -- 4 days

Prague -- 4 days

Munich -- 4 days

Cinque Terre -- 5 days

Venice -- 4 days

Florence -- 4 days

Rome -- 4 days

Athens -- 2 - 3 days

Egypt -- 3 - 4 weeks.

Not spending much time in London because its expensive. Not spending much time
in Athens because ive heard you should get in and get out. So just takin teh advice i've heard.

All of these cities are kinda subjective...to me. If I like it I may stay longer, if I dont, I wont. I'm actually considering knocking a city or 2 out because I am worried about my budget, i am not sure if I will meet my 75 dollar a day goal. I might meet that goal but have no money for egypt.

If I were to knock 1 or 2 cities which should they be?

Also I am worried about the ferry from Italy to Greece. How much does it cost?

I think thats all for now, at least all I can think of. If I remember anything I will be sure to ask!

With a Eurail pass you can actually get a ferry from Italy to Greece for "free." Check it out:

Click on the link that says "Complete List of Bonuses"

The ticket is free, but there's a season surcharge that can be up to E30. Not bad at all, though.

Arrive May 7th the fly to Cork
10th train to dublin
13th fly to edinburgh
16th fly to amsterdam
20th train to cologne
25th fly to prague
1st fly to roma
6th train to florence
10th fly to barcelona
16th fly to paris
23rd chunnel to london
29th fly home (this could change my friend has to go home at this point but depending on how much debt I'm in I may extend my trip)

As for the travel book, I personally am sold to Lonely Planet, which in your case would be the Western Europe one. I think only Prague isn't included, unless you buy the huge Europe LP but I'm not sure it's worth it. A separate Prague guide could be bought at low price in Prague itself.

Yeah it's about 35E on the way there (with the "deal") and was about 48 on the way back without. (this was last summer though before the Euro went up....)

Without eurail pass i paid 54 euros for the ferry from Bari to Patras.
Thats a student price though.

Great itinerary Slacker!! I like the way you have it laid out.

If you were to give up a city or two, I'd probably say one in Italy. There is stuff to see in all cities listed, plus it gives you a little flavor for the country. Therefore, I wouldn't want to knock a whole country off, yet with Germany, there is a lot of history in Berlin and a lot to see in Munich (or maybe a lot drink? ). Anyhow, seems like you've given yourself adequate time. Your budget should be easy to stay within provided you don't smoke and don't go to the bars much.

Sounds like an amazing trip. I hit up a few of those cities the last time I was in Europe. Munich was great, but I found that Nurnberg was more picturesque, the hostel I stayed at was way more fun, cheaper and there was more of a "closeness" among the people staying there, and the city was just generally tons of fun. I'd suggest skipping Munich and going to Nurnberg instead, or maybe splitting up your time between the two, because Nurnberg is so much fun. But other than that, I don't know if I would be able to cut any cities out. Florence is really cool, except if you time everything right, you'll be able to see all the main sights/museums in two or three days. There are a lot of museums and stuff there but most of them are smallish and don't take half a day to get through (except the Uffizi Gallery). There are a lot of lines for the big stuff though. Also, Florence doesn't have much of a nightlife, at least that's the way it seemed when I was there. Venice is an amazing city just to get lost in and wander around aimlessly, plus it has some cool stuff too, except again, not much of a nightlife. Not that that's a bad thing, you don't want to burn yourself out on partying. I would maybe spend a bit less time in Florence and bit more in Rome. Rome is huge and there's tons to see and do.

I'd also suggest the Lonely Planet guide. I got the big one that covers all of Europe, but I ended up only seeing Western countries last time. It was still a great book though.

For the guide books, we also like the Lonely Planet. If you got Western Europe (consider tearing out the pages on the countries you're going, so you don't have to lug around the whole walloping thing), then you could pick up the Prague "In Your Pocket" guide. Check out: www.inyourpocket.com for a general idea, but buy the current issue when you arrive in country. It'll tell you everything you need to know for a short stay in the city (anything under, say, two months) and also has listings of current events and exhibits for the actual time you're there, so it's quite a handy thing to have. They cost about the equivalent of $3 US, so it's a big return on investment, and they have lots more detailed info than the big guide books can accommodate. Great restaurant reviews - very honest - and excellent maps.

You're iteinerary is looking good... If it were me I'd go from London to paris then amsterdam so your trip to berlin wouldnt be nearly as long, but thats just from looking at the map. it might be cheaper the way you have it.

I had a 70usd/day including hostel and by the end of the trip I was spending money like a rock star so don't hold back and bring a credit card just in case No since going half way around the world to worry about your finances. Fuck it have fun you only live once and you can't take it with you, Cheers and good travels

Oh yeah and take a day trip to Pisa it's 45 minute train west of Firenza (Florence) and pretty cool check out my avatar but do that after Firenza so that way you can go to Pisa for two hours cause that's all you need the city is the size of a pea but the tower is on the other side of the train station. Any way go to Pisa spend 2-4 hours then hop on the train to Roma and sit on the right side of the train cause you will ride along the coast and it is wicked sweet and looking at your itinerary that may be the only beach scene of the Mediterranean you get.

Oh I just thought of a question!! I am going to be in Cinque Terre for about 5 days.

Im lookin for rooms, found an old post about a cheapish room that will work in the town that sounds somehting liek Monterreso or something.

Now I am going to want to see the other 5 towns. Should I just make the Monterreso my main base and just hike to each of the other towns 1 day at a time and then hike back or what??

Honestly, you might want to revise your schedule a bit and spend less time in Venice and Cinque Terre. In Venice there really isnt a whole lot to do other than walk around and look at the town. There are museums there, but not of the caliber you find elsewhere and the price of entry into the attractions on St Marks square is pretty steep. Unless you are going there just to chill out, I wouldnt spend any more than two nights there.

Cinque terre is beautiful, but again, not a whole lot to do there. It has a pebble beach in Monterosso which is nice if not a little crowded (although May might be different). You can hike the towns in one day if you are in decent shape and they are cool towns to see, but there isnt really much there with which to occupy your time. But again, if youre going just to chill out and hang around, youre itinerary might be fine. You should definitely make monterosso your base (it is the largest with the most stores and restaraunts) and hike or take the train to boat to the other towns.
