3 weeks in europe
hey guys, me and 5 other girls are travelling for 3 weeks in aug. just want your opinion on where to go, what to do, where to avoid etc etc.
6th aug- fly from dublin to venice. Will probably only stay a night or two as I've heard it's quite expensive. Train from Venice to Bled. Camp at lake bled for 3 or 4 nights? Then Ljlubiana (sp?) for a night or two. train from Ljlubiana to Zagreb. stay for one night. fly to dubrovnik. will probably spend most of our time down here visiting the islands, possibly a visit to monetenegro? 27th aug-flying dubrovnik-dublin We weren't going to buy interrail tickets as we're only doing a couple of train journeys and thought it would probably be more expensive. anyone have any ideas on how much this might cost just doing it without the interrail ticket? is there anywhere else we should go? |
I think its best that you aren't getting the train passes. Point-to-point tickets do seem like they would be a better deal looking at how spread out your itinerary is.
As fas as places to go, there's always somewhere else to check out but it seems like you have a lot on your plate already. Some people around her will tell you that you're spending too much time and money on travelling between the sites and could do better to stay in a tighter region. to them, i say "whatever." While it is a valid point, i'm doing the same as you guys essentially, going from London eventually all the way down to Dubrovnik, then up to Prague before coming home. Costs are hard to estimate without knowing more about the trip. Are you flexible with your travel dates? If so that could help shave a few dollars or pounds or dinars or whatever you're paying with. Are you staying in hostels or B&Bs? I know that when we (me, my wife, my bro, & sis) are going to Dubrovnik, we are hoping to find accomodations in a private apartment once we get there. Maybe a little risky, but will definitely be more exciting that way. We're going in the next couple weeks, i'll probably be posting some info on Dubrovnik when we return so keep a heads up for that. |
Not a bad itinerary - flying the long hauls makes sense, and you're pretty much staying along the Adriatic, so not too much time taken up by travel there.
The fact that you're traveling with other people makes cheap hotels or even apartment rental a viable option. Anywhere you're going to be for more than three days, you might want to check out some apartment rentals, as they can sometimes work out cheaper than hostels, when you're sharing the bill. For instance, we spent a week in Budapest with our four kids - it was much cheaper getting an apartment rather than 6 hostel beds, plus we got a lot more room, private bathroom and a kitchen which cut down on food expenses. :tumbleweed: |
Enjoy your trip...Looks like fun.
