I'm planning on driving me motor up to Finland with a mate of mine to meet some couchsurfers that stayed with me this year.

The trip will include a stop off in Amsterdam and a go around the Nurburg ring in Germany. I want to knock around 3 weeks out of it so I need some suggestions on other places to visit in northern France, west/central Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Swedan and Finland.

The ferry to france looks like it will cost between €550 and €650 and if I'm not mistaken I can do around 1000klm on a tank (60litres) in my car costing around €70 a fill but I could have the tank capacity wrong I'll look that up in the book today. Direct it's 2500klm but I'll budget for 4000 meaning I'll have to spend around €400 on diesel.

I haven't budgeted at all for repares it's a brand new car (citreon C4, van version) but the Nurburg ring could destroy the tryes I may need a new set afterwards.

Anyone with road trip experience or suggestions for more stop offs?

I don't know which type of tires do you have? Oh and for a good road trip music is essential. Check all the fluids before you leave also I don't know clean the filters half way the trip, I can't wait till the Platinum gas saver comes out to the market! That way I'll be able to make usage of 98% of the gasoline a 22% more than without it!

Nurburgring is just about an hour from us, haven't made it out there yet...everyone here goes for Rock am Ring.

Anyway, what an awesome trip. You can drive up the coast of France and into Belgium - maybe check out Ypres or Oostend on the way. Oostend was weirdly charming (check out "Breakfast in Belgium" thread for a couple of views of it), and then stop by Bruges and possibly Antwerp (haven't been but I've heard good things). Stop by The Hague and maybe Rotterdam on the way to Amsterdam. You could do a really cool coastal circuit, driving along the Baltic coast of Germany (Lubeck and Kiel are supposed to be cool) and then take the ferry across to Sweden. Or divert into Denmark and hop across that way. Only been to Stockholm, but loved it, even in Feb. There's more about that in the Travel Stories forum.

Basically all I can do with the car engine wise is top up the fluids the engine is completely enclosed so numptys can't get at it. It's this new HDi engine that Citreon have it's a real rocket for a diesel everyone I've had in it has been shocked by how fast it is for a 1.6. I've scared the poo out of many a peoples coming down the small back roads around here, one polish guy had to ring his friends to find out what the english was for 'slow down!'.

The Hague, yeah. I think I was actually there one time for a school tour, isn't that EU headquaters or somethin? I've heard Rotterdam is supposed to be really cool, you still have the cafes with a big student population.

I can't wait for Nuerburgring though that's the highlight of the trip, I just hope I don't crash the car I've heard the bills can be up to €15,000 to repare the track. I think drivers from the west of Ireland are up to anything though. The roads around here have to be seen to be believed.
