Me and two mates are travelling to Thailand in October for two months and then onto Sydney for 5 weeks. This is our first trip out of Europe and I was just wondering how essential you thought an itinerary is??
Now I have done quite a few European countries be it following England for the football, lad weekends etc. but have never planned anything (bar maybe accomodation) and just gone and done our own thing.
Now that time is ticking down to our travels everyone keeps asking "What have you got planned?", "Where are you going?" etc. and everytime I say we have got nothing planned at all and truly mean it!! We have a loose plan of travelling up to Chaing Mai first and then down to the Islands in time for the Full Moon party on November 6th (I think it is) and making sure we are in Sydney for New Year as my brother and a few mates will also be there then but that is it!!!
I just quite like the idea of landing in Bangkok, 3 first time travellers and just winging it and see how we do!! Now I have friends who have travelled (and some live out there now) to both Thailand and Australia and they have gave me suggestions of things to do and places to go but I still keep coming back to the idea of just going for it on our own and seeing what happens!! Learning from your own experiences and all that!!
Is it worth planning ahead (especially Australia, with internal flights etc.) or do you think my plans of just playing it by ear ultimately backfire on me??
Thoughts?
