I would most definitely recommend the Polynesian Hostel Beach Club to those young Hawaii bound surfer- travelers who are heading for Waikiki on very limitted budgets. The Polynesian is just a 2 minute walk from the beach and is staffed with super-friendly surfers from all over the world. I have been here, at the Polynesian, for the last 5 days and have loved every minute of it. Unfortunately, I will be flying back to the mainland tonight. Aloha!

So I'm resurrecting a very old post here...
I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the Polynesian Hostel Club lately... I figure a lot can change in 3 years (management, cleanliness, reputation etc)...

We're looking to stay here for about 10 days and want to make sure we're getting something fairly decent...

I've stayed at Seaside Hostel before and that was pretty good but we have some fussier people staying with us, and Polynesian looked to be the most accommodating for all parties involved...

Thoughts?

I did last april... wasnt impressed! Bugs everywhere, rowdy guests staying at it... but in fairness they are all like that in honolulu.

The best hostel I came across while touring the islands was the banana bungalow on maui. Dont know if thats any help tho?

Sigh. Not going to Maui... But I did want to stay there if we do...

There are 5 of us going to Hawaii (all female) and 2 of them haven't done hostels. 1 is willing to try the dorm room experience, however we had to come to a compromise so we're getting a 4 bed dorm (instead of the 6 bed), while the 5th is going to get the Studio with the private bathroom.

So far Polynesian Hostel Club is the ONLY one offering private rooms with private bathrooms. And now I'm worried it's going to be a dive... I've read so many mixed reviews.

What about Waikiki Beachside - Anyone been there recently???

Also - staying in Big Island, Kona or Hilo?
