Hey guys. I got back from Egypt a few weeks ago and one song that seemed like a popular folk song was based around the ever-present phrase asalamu aleikum. It was a fun song and brings back lots of memories, if anyone is familiar with it or knows where I can find it, please help me out!

Eh, I'm (probably) the resident middle eastern music person on the boards and I'll do some digging, but is the singer male or female? (This helps greatly.) And do any of these artist names ring any bells-- Hakim? Ruby? Amr Diab? Samira Saeed? Rachid Taha? Ehab Tawfik? Walid whats-his-face... (I'm almost positive it's not Hakim or Amr Diab though.)

Hey...give us details from the trip! Tunes are all fine and dandy, but inquiring minds want to know: Where'd you stay? How much did it cost? How long were you there? What did you see? Egypt is definitely on my "short list" of places to see....soon! worldwidemike |
Greetings!
ANd welcome to the boards! FYI, "asalamu aleikum" is a common phrase that muslims greet each other. Basically translated it means wishing allah's blessings on you... When mentioned, the appropriate response would be: "malaikum 'salam". Cheers! (another common greeting mode...hehe) |
