Middle East See the Promised Land, the Red Sea, magnificient ruins and mosques, oil-rich metropoles. When you're done with that, go skiing and rock climbing ! |

I don't know about you folks, but when I go over seas the huge party guy (that is in hybernation most of the ttime at home) comes out, drinking, girlz ( not anymore, my wife would not like that i don't think), and just a general crazy kinda time. I hear that in Muslim countries, these things are against the law, does any know whow you party in a Muslim country?

I guess it depends on where you go. Indonesia is a moderate Muslim country and the culture is very lax on such things (depending on where you go) I have heard that the Saudis head to Bahrain and Djibouti to get away from strict control and let loose at parties. I know that Egypt and Iraq allows the legal sale of alcohol. If you wish to see Iraq, don't forget to duck-and-run and to cover your beer .

yeah, i had been meaning to add this comment - but while i was in indonesia - it was all good to party. i mean, it had to be hidden in a way, especially from the native's parents - but there was weed smoking and plenty of screwdrivers to be had. my hosts took me to the hard rock cafe in jakarta, i was just 15 then, but i was drunk as hell.
but, yes, that was in a "mild" muslim country, though the most populous.

You do it how the hardcore Saudis and Muslims do it, they go to Bahrain! Bahrain is the Las Vegas of the Middle East. Supposedly Allah's eye is "blind" to what happens in Bahrain. It still is a Muslim country, and you have to be very careful, but there are a couple of good bars and clubs. Also watch out for drunk Arabs (from Saudi Arabia) , because since Allah is not watching them, they can get out of hand, in fact most Bahrainis are weary of them.

Hahah.. one of my friends grew up in Bahrain and had abut the same to say about it. Not to mention the drunken crashing of really flash luxury cars on a regular basis
Other places include Dubai in the Emirates and Kish in Iran. More "blind-eye" places...

Actually i was just reading that Lebanon is quite happening if you go to the right side of town. I will see if I can find a link to it. It was in our Sunday paper.

Bahrainrocks has a good point. Go to Bahrain or to the U.A.E. If you are in a country that is pretty strict, i.e. Iran or Kuwait you can go to the local souk or bazaar, have a kebob or some dejaj (chicken) and smoke a nargela (hookah). Depending on where you are from depends on the flavor of tobacco you order. FYI, if in Iran, it is acceptable to smoke bananna, if in Iraq or Kuwait, it can imply homosexuality. Smoke with caution.
In Jordan on the other hand, has a couple of bottle shops and the larger hotel chains have bars. They also have some "special bars" that almost any cabbie can take you to. Use your descretion when visiting.
Happy Travels!
Will

Interesting stuff, tequila!
Well, my roomie's girlfriend's brother is some globe-trotting DJ and the gift he always likes to send back are *drum roll please* shot glasses from Islamic countries! So yeah, I guess there's always a party to be found somewhere!
