I stumbled upon this volunteer opportunity that sounds really good!

Basically, you volunteer with the Israeli army, doing grunt work but at the weekends they take you out sightseeing and staying over places etc....It does cost, but I think it would be amazing!

I have a friend who did this awhile ago and said it was pretty great experience.

I lived on a kibbutz in Israel back in 1981-82 for a number of months. It was an amazing experience, in my opinion. You need a lot of time to do it, though, as you basically get one "3 day weekend" per month in time off (work 6 days a week). Or at least that's how it was back in my day...it could be different now.

Maybe an exciting and unique experience, but I don't think I could have 'assisted Israeli Defense Forces' on my conscience.

It could be interesting I suppose but I think I would find it odd to volunteer for a military that has a $14 billion annual budget...I mean they don't really need volunteer help.

On the other hand it is an actual volunteer position, where they provide the room and board...very tough to find non profits where you don't pay all your own expenses plus extra to 'volunteer' as an unskilled worker.
