Hi everyone, I'm new here and want to say hi!
I am planning my first backpacking trip and departure is planned for around September. I have been reading up on a lot of bar/pub jobs and it seems that a lot of them are live in positions? What does this mean exactly? Are there rooms in the bar that you stay in? Or above or something...Anyway thanks for any input.

First off, welcome to Tpunk!
I am not sure about the positions you are speaking of, but is it possible it would be that you would live with the family that owns the place? You might also look at living/working at a hostel.

thanks for the welcome!
I am not sure exactly what it means...I was just looking on gumtree and a lot of the job openings specified that it was a live in position. They peaked my interest though because it would be interesting to live in a bar! Or above one for that matter!

I don't know, living above a bar...when you aren't working it might be hard to get sleep...
Post a link or two of these jobs you are looking at...

You sleep on the bar!
No not really. I believe you have a room to yourself that is part of the attached hotel. Usually you get a less than normal wage but meals and accomodation are included.

Hi guys!
I've got a page on my site with info on live-in work, hostel work and other stuff... mainly in the UK.
The live-in bit is at http://www.travoholic.com/euro/work/livein.htm and if you've got any questions just let me know!
Hope this helps,
Kirsty

She's referring to www.thegumtree.com
Live in jobs suck hard. Your co workers and your boss know everything about you. I dont know anyone who actually enjoyed a live in job. That said, it is very convenient and generally cheaper and easier than finding somewhere to live yourself. I dont know if I would do it again though, unless I lived somewhere off in the countryside where it would be difficult to get my own flat. Also, make sure that you are authorised to work before you just go over. Try www.bunac.org
