Hey Erin, come next year your list will explode :P ! It´s all about the passport stamps
Silus, "pathetic list"- NOT! You´re quite lucky to have experienced some serious cultural diversity, and that will certainly compound when you touchdown in Spain! You´re a veteran traveler compared to most people that I know :D

Hi everyone,
I hope no one thinks I'm bragging, but here is my list (which some of you have already seen on my web site).
Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Belize, Bermuda, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Rep, Dominican Republic, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Korea, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Oman, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Russia, St.Lucia, San Marino, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, U.A.E., Vatican City and Wales.
Lots of them were real short trips -- nothing like the months some of you have spent in a country really getting to know it. I wish I had the time for that, but as TP said, we get caught up in the big rat race and it is so hard to break away for much more than the Standard, Industry-Approved One Week Vacation Block. Ptah! Europeans and Aussies/Kiwis have it so much better with their monthlong or yearlong sabbaticals. I love my country, but the U.S. suffers from vacation stinginess. So many people slave their lives away without really getting a chance to go out there and experience life. The one week in a vacation condo in Hilton Head or Florida is a nice break, but is NOT a true vacation from your everyday life. If I had a wish that could change one thing about the way business works in America it would be that companies and the workplace could be reconfigured so that all of us would have a chance to head off for a few months somewhere and really SEE a country or region. We'd be a much better, tolerant and friendly people for it.
Okay, down off the Sunday soapbox!

Sure, but you have to remember I was 14 at the time and that was 6 years ago, so my perspective is somewhat different to that of an adults.
I guess the thing that I remember the most would be the beauty of the country, how so much of the country was uninvaded by technology and most of all the warm friendly nature of the people. Needless to say when we landed in Yangon there were armed military that lined both sides of the run way.
The old ruined temples are something that I remember quite a lot about, really amazing. Especially when you get up early, climb one of them and watch the sun rise.
Ohhh and the smell, such a good smelling country.
I recommend you go to Innlay Lake and Bagan.
I never made it to Mandalay so I can't comment about it.
In one village where we stayed our main means of transport was horse and cart!
Try and mingle with the locals, we hired bikes for the day and rode past this farmers house who invited us in for lunch. He had these big ponds as he was a fish farmer. My brother, sister and I played in the pounds with his kids, jumped on the big piles of hay, had lunch with them and they give us little gifts when we left. My sister still stays in contact with one of the girls she met. They were such a friendly and welcoming family.
There is so much local hand craft. We saw people making paper, umbrellas, lacer pots, weaving material, glass blowing and different types of metal and wood work.
Sorry I cant provide too much information, as I said I was quite young at the time. But one thing I can recommend is going there! You will not regret it.

Thanks!
I plan on doing the bicycle thing, too. Everything I read talks about how warm and friendly the people are. I will make sure I take them up on invitations like you guys did. That's great your sister stays in touch with someone she met. The more I read, the more I am looking forward to this trip...

My list is below. Not as travelled as I want to be- but lucky nonetheless. (using double space aids in filling out a sparse list )
Canada: 2 days, 10 years ago
Russia: currently 4 1/2 months
Finland: 6 days
Germany: 45 minute layover
I am hoping to tack on a couple more before I head back Stateside. It will be tough, since I only have a month to do it. So there will be a battle between quantity or quality of the places stayed. Also, I wish I could've spent a week in Germany. O'well, next time .
