Taking a Bike...HELP - TravelPUNK Backpacker College Student Budget Travel Message Boards!

Here is the deal, I will be in Italy/France for about 20 days in May. I'm a cyclist (pro DH mtn biker) and a lot of the reason I am going is to continue rehab on my ankle while enjoying Europe. I've been once before, but never like this. I will have a very expensive road bike that I will use to train on (READ: Not to get from point A to point B) and will be getting around by train.

I'm mostly worried about theft/how I will get my bike on the train, what will I do with my stuff while I am riding etc etc etc. Any help is appreciated as well any spots you reccomend I hit up...I'm flying into Milan.

What is the minimium amount you see me spending in 20 days. Hostels only.

Never done it before, but I DO remember seeing the trains in Italy that will take bikes. It is only certain ones -- not all lines and routes have them. So, check before you go which lines or service will do it. It would suck to depend upon it for your transport then find out its no dice...
