I'm a newb, so I'm not completely sure this is the right forum to ask this. Let me know if I'm wrong.

I know english, and my spanish teacher tells me I'm getting pretty close to being fluent in that as well. I bought a book on portuguese, because it's so close to spanish (at least, in theory; the pronounciation is completely different). Not that I'm some kind of language genius that can learn a language over a weekend or anything like that, but assuming I could, what languages would you experience travellers suggest I learn? What's the most helpful over there? (For the mediterannean region at least, that's where I'm headed.)

i think you have it pretty sussed with the english for the meditteranean as everyone prety much speaks a spallter of english and seeing as you already have some spanish under your belt you should be pretty much able to pick up some itallian too!
