Hi all
I'm a total rookie at this whole travelling with a backpack thing. I was going to travel right after i grad'ed from highschool but i got a scholarship, so i went to school for a year, after that I decided it's time for me to hit the road. I was minding my own business making money when a nasty car accident in Jan put a huge dent in my plans ; I am majorly crippled now and dunno when I'll be walking normally again (2.5 month already gone by) but now that I'm not working, I have tons of time to plan my trip roughly and budget it.
The plan was to go to NZ then Austrailia, then fly from there to South East Asia and explore that area. I want to see the whole world, literally, but that all depend on the money situation.

I hope we can help ease the transition into your first real trek, any help you need, we got guaranteed. Haha i like to rhyme...
But I'm rambling...

Oddly enough, it took some not-quite-so-drastic but still significant life changes for me to decide to travel, myself...
It's a pain that it took a negative event to remind you of what's important to you, and the dreams that you had before, but there's still no time like the present...
There's plenty of expertise here, and with a bit of pre-planning, you'll be surprised how much you will enjoy travelling on a budget...
Welcome!
<<edit>>
by the way, where in BC are you? (there's a ton of us Tpunks in the Nortwest here)

Welcome to the boards! Sorry to hear about your accident. I recently broke my ankle and have decided to forego the Mexico part of our Texas/Mexico trip. It sucks, but like you said, gives you more time to plan. We'll be here to help answer all of your questions!

Welcome! The accident and the delays are terrible, but now that you're finally doing it, I think the trip will be that much better.

tbar, you're the only person not related to me that I've heard of that says "love ... to bits" - my husband thinks it's some strange thing in my family. Now I have evidence that it is in fact a regional dialect - I'm from the North Shore too, though haven't lived there for many years now...

If you prowl the "past meetups board" you'll see a few of us...

Tumbleweedz, you can yell your husband that it's a worldwide thing, because I say it, and I'm from England!

I couldn't see an "edit" button anywhere, but I meant to say "tell" not "yell". Well, you can yell it at him if you like, but whatever!

Thanks Lauren, though since my dad's English, maybe it's something he imported.
I don't know if it'll be necessary to yell, maybe if he doesn't believe me the first time...

Freudian slip joke (sorry can't resist)
Two guys are sitting in a bar talking when the Freudian slip reference comes up. One guy asks the other guy what he's talking about. Guy 1 explains "It's when you accidentally say something when you meant to say something else." And Guy 2 is like "Oh I get it. It's like when I meant to say to my wife 'Please pass me the jam for my toast,' and what I really said is 'You stupid bitch you ruined my life.'"
